Financing a Porsche Macan

The Paragon one hasn't got bucket seats and PDK ones are much harder to sell.

If I was in the market for a ragtop, it would be more attractive to me - bucket seats are uncomfortable as hell if you don't have 29" hips.

Paragon are chancing their arm. [...] I posted it as an example of the mark-up.

They probably are but they're a business so I can't blame them. I would suggest though it's Paragon knowing their clientelle.

I seriously doubt that car will hand any new owner a big bill for years so people shouldn't be scared of buying the likes of Porsche privately.

You're probably right - the DFI engines are fairly bombproof. People had their chance at the auction and for whatever reason, they passed (the odds are stacked in your favour at auctions - you don't have a profit to make). Personally, I'd get a proper inspection but you can't have one of those at an auction.

I can only find one similar for sale https://www.gtonesales.co.uk/used-cars/porsche-boxster-3-4-987-spyder-2dr-chertsey-202007241652400
It's £1k cheaper but does not benefit from being sold by a known Porsche specialist.

I can't blame Paragon for charging what they do, they took the risk at £37k. If it was perfect, and assuming the auction wasn't trade only, how come no-one else thought it was worth a punt at £37k or even £40k?

If Paragon put it out for £42k which (if the car didn't need much to bring it up to Paragon's retail standard) would make a reasonable profit, it might not sell; a Spyder buyer knows what they go for and would be suspicious at a bargain.
And they probably give some sort of warranty.

Paragon will shift it eventually. Their cars tend to stick for a long time until they find someone that thinks super low miles (why paragon bought it) actually translates to a car that drives well.

Or, an investment.

An auto Spyder without buckets isn't a wise investment.

If you check the MOT history, that cars averaged 400 miles per annum since 2016. It's weird spec car for a collector to sit on but they seem to have. These things like to be driven a bit more than that....I really wish this super low miles mania would end...off topic now

I'm on my 4th Porsche now, 38" waist and the carbon fibre bucket seats are the most comfortable I've had. Previous 14way 18way sports seats, I lasted maybe 150miles before I had back pain and had to stop.

On my 911 with bucket seats, I could easily 400miles not a twinge. Comfy and supportive.

3 of my cars were new and had serious faults within the first year. PDK failure, and air suspension failure.

My MY2015 911 Targa 4S, has had two electrical faults and a seriously expensive hood fault.

They offer a 12 month warranty (their own, not an insurance based one) in the price so that will account for about £2k of the markup.
Having a good warranty's a really important consideration when buying something like a Porsche, but I'm amazed by how poor some of these are. Harbour Cars, where I bought my cars, have an excellent year's warranty, and the place I'm getting the 911 from gives you a year's official Porsche one. Some I've seen offer only three months, with a £1,000 cap on any warranty claim - bloody useless.

I agree. Porsche dealers do a 2 year warranty on used cars. I'll need to renew mine come the new year, and they arnt cheap.....but worth every penny

And, of course, if your car goes in for any insurance or warranty work, you get to try a different Porky Prime Cut as a courtesy car!

Porky Prime Cut as a courtesy car!

no rarely these days. Depends on the duration of the work, and for me who you know at the dealer. The norm for our OPC is a VW Up or a stinking diesel VW Golf.

When I had the fault on my Targa roof eventually fixed it was in two days. The salesman who sold it to me felt sorry for me (it was the third visit for the same fault) and lent me a 718 GTS (horrible car).

^^^ I test drove a 718 last Xmas and was actually glad to get back into my 14yo Cayman after it. That four pot engine!!! The new 718 GTS is 6 cylinder and silly money

If they'd kept a 6 pot in it I might actually be heading to the same dealer to buy a 2yo one with warranty. No new cars excite me TBH.

I went from 987S, to 981S (both from new), and was all set for another....test drove a 718 4 pot and I was seriously disappointed. Then spent a few years in Macan Turbo (a fantastic car, brilliant at what it does), and i might have had another, if the wait for the new model Turbo wasn't greater than 12 months....But I missed the convertible experience and had a 911 itch to scratch. When I found the top spec (the first owner spent close th £30k) on extras Targa 4S, I couldn't resist.

But my prejudices against the 4 pot 718 were confirmed when I had one for a day as a courtesy car.

Anyway the Targa needs to go in for recall work.....

Shocking thread, waxing lyrical about all things Porsche and ignoring the elephant in the room! 43KG Retreiver :). Our monster is 27KG's. Whats going on??

ISTR that you could buy an OPC warranty even if your car didn't come from an OPC, all you needed was them to inspect it and assess it as being in warrantable condition (however, over-revs was a likely fail). It was North of £1k but you only needed one thing to go wrong with a 911 and it paid for itself. I'm not sure if they still offer this.

The engines not good in terms of Porsches legacy. It's a good engine in isolation and tuners are having a field day with them.

Still a big shame its not a 6 cylinder N/A as the 718 has resulted in older models holding their value more. If the 718 had been a 6 pot, theres no way a 6 year old 981 Cayman S would be selling for similar money to a 3 year old 718 Cayman. That's what's happening.

I guess they still do; it's what I'm getting with my new car.
