The C4 News coverage of this was rather amusing.

This was also amusing:

Jon Snow lined up 2 Romanian ladies who live in London, presumably expecting them to give Farage a kicking (starts at 6m 30s) . To his obvious frustration and discomfort they proceeded to disagree with most of his suggestions, saying Farage is not racist. Most amusing was when one of them said she would not want a bunch of romanian men moving in next door either! They also had a go at the Roma, which seems to be a national sport.

Plenty of Romanians, Poles, Nigerians, Turks and Pakistanis here in Leyton & Walthamstow.
Stoll along the Walthamstow market on a sunny afternoon and you'll encounter more nationalities in 10 minutes than many will encounter in a lifetime.

All seems to work rather well as an integrated community, but we don't give any time to the likes of UKIP or other right parties intent on stirring division. They all get smashed in the polls here, as they will tomorrow.

Jacob Rees-Mogg said Farrage was a "good egg" on HIGNFY...and he knows a thing or two, had Jo Brand taking him seriously which is something

Few of ukip’s health spokepersons policy suggestions

“We should accept that if a triaging clinician feels we don’t need treating within two hours required for standard cases then we be either willing to pay or willing to wait longer so cases most deserving are treated best. People should pay a higher charge if they haven’t registered with a GP as being directed back to primary care avoids unnecessary A&E visits.”

"Banning all teaching of climate change in schools"

Good egg is what posh people call someone they don't know , but met once and didn't find objectionable . It is hardly a ringing endorsement .

And JRM give me strength !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you thought she was taking him seriously I don't know what you'd class as piss taking!

Another one in my home town gets the boot - strange thing is, he's been writing to politicians and posting this stuff on the internet for years. A quick conversation with him during the selection process would have exposed what he is.

Job advert: UKIP candidates wanted (must be able to spell your own name correctly).

Exposed as racist and homophobic, branded an idiot by Farage and kicked out of the party, but with "UKIP" on the ballot paper this person gets 23% of the vote. It's nuts!!

Without UKIP these people would be on the fringes of the Tory party, and were.
You'll get similar nutters on the extremes of the Labour party too.

In order to oppose UKIP it necessary to engage them properly as a political party on those terms. Slagging off won't defeat them and if anything is construed as having no answer to their political points, and thus giving them ground. Jo Brand knows this.

Stick to the politics and remember that no politicians are normal people - they are always weird. All of them. By concentrating on their fringe nutters and not the politics you are letting them in.

What needs to happen is the other parties have to engage with the people who feel disenfranchised such that they vote UKIP. Many of the UKIP voters will probably not vote UKIP at the general election but peoples' concerns need to be dealt with. There will be a proportion of UKIP voters who are racist but I believe the vast majority are not.

What's one of the sayings? The electorate are never wrong.

A saying attributed to an American politician is "The electorate have voted - the bastards!"

I get the feeling that is how some pfmers feel about recent events.

Jacob Rees-Mogg made me laugh out loud several times on HIGNFY last week. I wasn't expecting that at all.

Farage is a kind of John Bull or Mr Punch caricature. He should be awarded the prize of ‘Man Of The Year’. He adds a bit of colour to British political life - although I don’t agree with many of his views: we certainly should stay in Europe.

PS: Completely off the point , but - we need a non elected House of Lords with good representation of landed gentry and the true upper classes - not just the nouveau riche. It’s perfectly ok for members to doze off during proceedings.

I read in ‘The Times’ yesterday that Mr Gove’s family has received very offensive mail. Mrs Gove said that she always thought ‘..socialists were nice but misguided. Now I know they are not nice at all…’. She is thinking of sending their children abroad. Makes sense.

Jacob Rees- Mogg is a young fogey.
