Cheers Paul - He does make a good model. I think I need to get a bit more proactive with the photography as opposed to looking for wee part time jobs to fund the kids education.

Before the Funeral

Elaine Jeffrey, 14/1/13 by pete*t, on Flickr

Elaine is an old friend of mine from Napier days. If you read Colin's obituary (link posted previously) it mentions that they were collaborating on work - they were more than that. She thought it fitting to do a portrait that day.

Pete - sorry for your loss but that's a wonderful set of portraits, as your previous pics of Colin have been also.

And something latent though essential to all your portraits - you really have a gift for conveying something of the Person; it's never just another 'nice image'.

What's the best way to reduce photo size & preserve detail?
I get a lot of pixellation when reducing

ps I don't use photoshop

You get the same functions in most photo editing packages

In CS6 I use Bicubic Sharper on reduction
and Unsharp Mask afterwards

In capture NX2 I use resample image on reduction and USM after

etc

LAB L channel, I hope...

Actually, I recorded an action a while back and that's what I use 99% of the time.

You're right about using Lab in Luminance mode, it does make for tidier edges

there's a good walkthrough on photo.net here

nice Giacomettis btw
