Here's a review of microphones, some classic and some modern:
Opinions on each appreciated. Actually it's not a review at all. It's the evidence. Each recorded without compression nor equalisation. You're the reviewer . . .

On ebay at the moment is a pair of Stamm drivers in LothX cabinets which I have rebuilt with very lightweight especially produced cloth surrounds. The back spiders used by Stamm were cloth also so these units will last a lifetime, especially as the voice coil isn't aluminium. I tested the...

I wonder why you didn't order the loudspeakers from Mr. Pinnegar, when he did has such good relations with Lowther.
Isn't there something...
In the light of day I looked again at the cones - they are C series cones but not mounted properly.
The ebay seller has responded:
"The Lowther were taken over by a company that repair only loudspeakers here in Germany from a large number of shops and well-known loudspeaker manufacturer...
I've been maintaining Lowther units for many years and today was sent a pair for service.
They had been bought within the month from German ebay classifieds. Said to have been professionally reconed and refoamed the units didn't seem quite right.
Upon opening the parcel I found that the cones...
The trouble with Lowthers isn't anything to do with the units but more usually the use of the wrong units inappropriately for the cabinets.
People assume pricier is better so they'll buy DX4 or EX4 and put them into front facing configurations and wonder why the sound is harsh. Those units are...
Using the Lowther jig to ensure circularity is the only way of ensuring adequate tolerances to get the coil to be free in the voice coil gap.
The wire is thin and soft, but the mandrel does no damage to the voice coil - unless it's weakened already by a fracture of the varnish insulation and...
I've had the unfortunate experience of refoaming a pair of AER BD2 units. Unlike a pair of MD units which I refoamed which had a wide magnet gap, the BD2 units have the Lowther style 1mm voice coil gap and which therefore requires very precise circularity of the voice coil.
This caused...
For years I've been a Lowther addict but found the units unreliable when put through their paces for a PA application.
So I've started to use Audio Nirvana in speakers that I'm using for sound reinforcement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwbeh6xQJjM might be interesting, recorded live with...
It's been a while since logging into the forum and upon doing so have found some messages unanswered for a few years. Apologies.
One such message asked me for advice and referred to the Lowther Shout. Thus this post.
I've been looking at interesting speakers in the past years including...
Hi!
To my surprise I've come back to this thread to find that I have been the lucky purchaser of the unit photographed above with the damaged grill.
It's a TP1B, the posh model with fancy walnut veneer.
The unit had sadly been a bit manhandled, the phase plug having its bolt broken off...
