Your Top Three Favourite Albums From The 90s?

Trying not list repeats I'd go with-

Super Discount - Étienne de Crécy
Puressence - Only Forever
Wu-Tang Clan - Wu-Tang Forever (will get panned, but I prefer it to 36 Chambers)

Frank Black & The Catholics - Frank Black & The Catholics
Richard Thompson - You Me Us
The Silos - The Silos

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call (1997)
Tom Waits - Mule Variations (1997)
Suede - Dog Man Star (1994)

PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea (misses out by just one year, 2000)

The 90s was the decade that reawakened my interest in music having previously been locked in the 60s. 1997 was a year to rival 1967.

Oh no! Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call. So now revised and REM go. So just Bob, Tom and Nick are my 3.

Autechre - Tri Repeate
Black Dog - Spanners (saw someone mentioned Bytes but I think Spanners has aged better)
Beta Band - The 3 ep's

I'm pretty sure that Ten (the regular version not the 20th anniv) on Tidal is nonremastered/unmolested - was the last time I checked.

very hard for me to pick (was easier to choose some from the 80s - so, I've created a thread for that..)

but would have to include The Verve - 'No come down'
Bark Psychosis - 'Hex'
and the Orb's - 'The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld'

interesting that Tony mentioned the Boo radleys, I used to love them, but I heard their debut album again the other year (first time since the 90s, but used to play it all the time, and was once touted as the best debut album of all time by some press) - and had I of not known it was them then I wouldn't have recognised it at all.. :(

Just tried and it sounds louder than my 1991 Epic CD. (Tidal says 1991 Sony, which I thought would be the same but there you go.) Sorry, he-he.

The difference isn't huge (unlike the newer/redux version which is very loud).

John Zorn - Naked City
June Tabor - Angel Tiger
Richard Thompson - Mock Tudor

RT’s You? Me? Us? and XTC’s Apple Venus volume one came very close.

i can see how vs is rated better by some if it was heard before ten, but ten was MASSIVE when it came out. same as vulgar display of power vs cowboys from hell. vulgar probably has more bangers, but you still chuck cowboys on when you fancy a bit of pantera...

Porcupine Tree -The Sky Moves Sideways
Marillion - Brave
Massive Attack - Protection

Honourable mention :- Portishead - Dummy & Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Loads of quality mentioned on this thread. Made me realise how much money I’ve spent on music...

It's impossible to choose, anything from Warp, Squarepusher's Feed Me Weird Things, or Aphex Twin, to Portishead or Massive Attack, to Ok Computer, or Nick Cave Let love in or Murder Ballads, the list is way too long before even going through grunge classics.

Lots of good choices on this thread, many familiar and a fair few below the radar just as it ought to be.

I’d add the following:

TLC - CrazySexyCool
Jellyfish - Bellybutton and Spilt Milk
Air - Moon Safari
Eels - Beautiful Freak
Jill Scott - Who Is Jill Scott?
Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville
Los Lobos - Kiko
Madonna - Ray Of Light
Elecktroids - Elektroworld
House Of Love - House Of Love

Radiohead - OK Computer
Wilco - Summerteeth
Los Lobos - Kiko (thanks to waxkinglyrical above for this reminder!)

Also...

Bill Frisell - Have a Little Faith
Bela Fleck - The Flight of the Cosmic Hippo
Esbjorn Svensson Trio - From Gagarin's Point of View

The 90s was my decade for music so it's really difficult to choose, but:

Mudhoney
Jane's addiction
Radiohead
Massive attack
Sonic youth

Cypress hill
Beastie Boys
Daft punk
Leftfield
