Your amp history...

Student days - some semi-decent Sony hi-fi thing I cant remember the model number of + Altec Lansing 4.1 (apparently THX certified) set.

First 'proper' amp : Cambridge 840a v1
Present, and I suspect sticking around for a while : Harman HK990

My amp listing is considerably shorter than my speaker list but over the past 10 years I have owned:

Naim Nait 5i
Naim NAC112 with NAP150
Naim Nait 5i (again)
Naim Supernait

Naim 52 / DIY Randy Sloane Amps

Interesting progression, Martin.

I haven''t followed an identical path, but I had an A&R A60 early on, several bits of chrome-bumpered Naim in the middle and now a Stingray.

Just bought a Perreaux eloquence 150i with DAC and MM/MC phonoboard. An amazing amp with a build quality that puts almost all others to shame. Luckily the sound quality is also just as good. It's paired with some Spendor SP1/2R.

Spacey, this is fascinating. I though nobody in the UK had one of these. I heard it in Canada with Harbeths and it was a very good match. I tried the Avaunt 80i back in the UK and it was very good but not quite, but the 150i might have been perfect.

Most probably the same as my Loudspeaker history. The electrons however, I have been assured, are literally billions of years old and to list their history would take, well, over a week thats for sure.

1st hifi amp NikkoTRM15 I think it was - early seventies. It had seperate bass and treble for each channel. Quaint. Blew Clive Sinclairs efforts out of the water for enoyability and reliability.

Reading about the Beolab 5000 recently, it seems that it was way ahead of it's time. I would like to own one today. I do have the Beolab 1700 (in fact two of them) and that is a nice little amp, probably inspired by the 5000.

I still own a lot of the amps that I have bought over the years.

Those still here:

Rogers Cadet III

Quad II/22

Teleton SAQ206B (a great little budget amp)

EMI 1515

Pioneer SA-410

Pioneer tuner amp of similar vintage

Quad 33/303 (four 303's)

Quad 44/405 II

Radford ZD50

Radford SPA50

Radford STA25 III/ SC22

NAD 3130 (two)

Luxman L-200

Hitachi HA-330

A&R A60 (three)

Sony tuner amp (1970's)

Tandberg Tuner amp

Williamson mono amp

Leak Stereo 70 (two)

Leak Stereo 30 (three)

Possibly a few more I have forgotten.

why do some lists contain a vast array of amps. I have owned only 4 in over 40 years and have no desire to buy anymore.

Harman Kardon HK1400 / Audiolab 8000a / Musical Fidelity E100 (all owned at the same time)

Beard C35 / P35
