Woodsmen! Anyone build me Ergo IX cabinets?

What other speaker designs do you have James?
Got pictures/descriptions/best suited to room sizes/box sizes/approx parts cost for them? (Dont ask much do I!)

Like mr_phil, I would prefer small floorstanders.. Must sound good but aesthetics are just as important.

Hi, James

How about turning the sides into an I shaped stand, by continuing the sides to the floor and putting a brace between them.

Pete

James is rather prolific in speaker design, have a search under his profile for threads started by him or search for Ergo. I'm certainly keener on a stand mount, infinite baffle as I see it as less "problematic" .... come on, you can guess what that means ;-)

These E-IVs are the smallest floorstanders I've designed and built.

Again, sealed box 2.5-ways with 6.5" midwoofers. Alas, I've long lost the build documentation with the last PC crash and the original pair has been sold. I think I have provided quincy and AshleyD of this parish with the plans, and AshleyD had in fact built a pair many years ago.

This, and the other sloped and contoured baffle Ergos are a bit more complicated to build and I have documented plans only for the E-IX and E-IIIR.

Sorry.

Hi Pete,

It could work, but I think it'd be ugly. Further more, unless it is affixed to a heavy plinth, it'd be rather top heavy. Standmounts really should be supported by proper stands. Floorstanders should be designed from the ground up (arf!) to be so.

... was. I've been in retirement for more than two years. I've reached nirvana with my E-Xs.

James

And a very nice place it will be I'm sure!
It may change when I move into my new house. You know, different room, different acoustics, a brand new garage and purpose-built woodworking benches etc. etc.

James :D

Any chance of bulk discounts on drivers? In brief, No. I've contacted a few places re the ScanSpeak and Morel drivers and there may be a very small discount for >=10, but nothing worth fighting for. The price breaks on these drivers seem to come at 100+ and that's clearly out of the question.

Best UK prices, including VAT and delivered see to be from: http://www.audio-components.co.uk
The ScanSpeak Mid-Bass is £140
The Morel horn tweeter is £47
So total driver price per spkr-pair is £374.

James mentioned that it may be possible to get better prices from the USA. Madisound offer 10% discount for 10+ units.
For example the Morel is $65.80, by the time it's shipped, and then the extra from customs etc its not worth it for me.

I'd happily try to get us a 10% discount from audio-components or the like if there were 5+ of us interested.

Andy

Wilmslow Audio will do the following price breaks on the ScanSpeak (base price £139.99
1 to 5 units - retail price
6 to 19 units - less 15%
20 to 49 units - less 20%
50 plus units - less 30%

Thats a worthwhile discount on 6+.. Especially seeing as we need 2 each.. With 3 people you get a nice 15% off.

Can they supply the Morel horn as well, and any breaks on that? (seeing as we will want the same number of those as ScanSpeaks).

Good work though :)

Sam

Yes Sam, they do the Morel (£41.27). Actually their prices don't include VAT or delivery which the audio components company did.

Ahh, apples to oranges then.. They need to beat their competitors to get my business.. ;)

Sam

yea, at 6+ they're still more expensive Sam. Best bet seems 10+ from audio comp, with a 10% discount (5 of us). Failing that, list price.

Makes sense.
I need to weigh up a few things as I still would prefer floorstanders, we can go from there. Might be worth starting a thread seeing if anyone else is interested (and include the speaker porn that James provided)
