Another vote for Amphion here. The Argon 3S are under budget, new, so leaving cash for stands, and the floor standing Argon 7 LS would probably come in on budget, if bought lightly used. I have the latter, and the finish seems pretty durable.

There is an Amphion dealer in Edinburgh I'll try to arrange a look and listen with them.

ProAc Tablette 10 Signatures come in a very nice flat white satin, which is very tough and has no trace of woodiness. They’d go nicely with some white Custom Design stands.

That's interesting. It seems that that my ignorance of the availability of white speakers is almost boundless. I do know these will suit the Sugden.
