Whisky II

Arrived earlier, not tried before. Thought it might be a case of marketing over substance...what the hell with the packaging.... I guess it's new and modern and different..?
It's the colour of Bruichladdich Bay in spring.

Nice! But I guess it would be quite expensive to get a bespoke bottle like that...then again all malts seem to be bespoke bottles...

Bulk discounts I guess given the no. of bottles and duration of production.
A lot of the other Islay bottles are bog standard. Laphroaig, Ardbeg etc.
Lots of indie bottlers save on the glass side of things.

We decided to take a drive to Dufftown to do some exploring and walk the dog, returning via Aberlour. That's not that long a drive but we past all of 13 distilleries, with lots more just off the route. The ones we passed were:
  • Tamnavulin
  • Glenrinnes (gin and vodka)
  • Allt-a-Bhainne
  • Dufftown
  • Mortlach
  • Balvenie
  • Glenfiddich
  • Craigallechie
  • Aberlour
  • Benrinnes
  • Glenallachie
  • Glenfarclas
  • Glenlivet
I've got whiskies from 7 of them I think.

Nice.
I've been marvelling at the colour of this:

I'm guessing it's first-fill.:D

The colour, and the nose are by far the best thing about that one. I had it, bought from the distillery for £70 (2005 - 2018 bottling - Whisky Castle still have one for £400!!) and it really wasn't so good (much as I wanted to love it). I would much rather an A'bundh, it was basically just sherry at 62%! Beyond a sherry bomb, that one.

The bottle is worth keeping though. I have little fairy lights in it!

My Dad has 2 of those; one opened, one unopened... It's very good and bang on price-wise IMO

Bought in 2009, the first year they stopped at what was the Hilton Dunkeld (now Dunkeld House Hotel) and then they bought their lodge there in 2011, Dad's 60th!

Edradour is too local for comfort when we're there :D
