What is your current system? part I

Status
Not open for further replies.
Guess it's about time I gave in and contributed.

LP12-Lingo-Aro-Dynavector DV20XL
Naim CD3.5 & Flatcap
Naim NAT03 & Ron Smith Galaxie 14
Nakamichi CR3E
Naim NAC62-HiCap-NAP140
Rega Ela
Everything sitting on Mana

Quite a few changes over the last 12 months, all started with a Mana Sound Table from ebay, then for the first time in 10 years I got a recurrence of the upgrade bug. The 3.5/FC (replaced Linn Mimik - can now listen to CD without wincing and getting fed up after 15 mins), the NAT03 (replaced Arcam Alpha - never realised radio was so good), Ron Smith (repl standard dipole - never realised radio could sound even better!), the HiCap (just adds more of everything) and lots of Mana (ditto with the HC) have all appeared since last summer.

System sounds amazing now, trying to fight off the upgrade bug for a while longer but it's probably a question of when not if.

Steve.

OK, here's mine then:

SME Model 20/Series V/Koetsu Rosewood Signature*
Philips DVD963SA**
NAC52/SUPERCAP
Stageline/HI-CAP
Headline/HI-CAP/Sennheiser HD650s/Cardas cable
NAP250
Shahinian Arcs***
Sony VPL-VW10HT LCD video projector
Carada 84" projection screen****
Home Theater Master MX-500 universal remote*****
Mana supports (Phase 3 for sources, Phase 2 for amps)

* The Rosewood Signature replaced a Lyra Clavis DC. Sorry, did I say "replaced"? I meant to say "totally annihilated" the Clavis DC :p

** no sniggering, please. The Philips is a lot better than the old Micromega Solo which I was previously using and it can play SACDs and DVDs too. Oh, and did I forget to mention that it only cost £315 ? :D

*** The Arcs recently-ish replaced a pair of Mk I Linn Kans which I had been using for over 10 years. Do I miss the Kans ? Nope. My only regret is having stuck so religiously to the "speakers last" doctrine. I had been running the Kans fully "maxed out" with a 52/SUPERCAP/250 and the SME/Koetsu front end - doh!

**** Carada make excellent value-for-money screens. Mine cost me £500 including shipping and import duties - which is a lot more affordable than the £1,400 which I was quoted for a Vutec screen.

***** I'd never go back to a Pronto after discovering the MX-500

BTW, I watch all my movies in glorious stereo, in case you were wondering...

Au contraire, I also have an Aura amp.
It's a PA200 and I like it very much. Sadly it is quite unreliable and will have to go eventually, but not...quite...yet.
Your lack of a vinyl front end is *suspicious* thoough. Hang around, though, and that will change:)

Is the Aura flat enough (it was once described in a review as a bit like a "small Naim") ?

Anyway, you lot (!) aren't going to like this ... my brother emigrated a few years ago and his system has been sitting around my parents house, unplugged in the loft (because he took his speakers with him).

So, the NAIT2 / NAP90 have been unused (I have just lent them to a friend, and he also has my old Monitor 7's). That's pretty bad, but there's worse ...

The Pink Triangle PT Too / Tabriz / Corus Black has also been unused. I plead living in a rented shared house, a lack of space, and worry about someone else deciding to play a record and not realising this isn't like a dj-ing deck as extenuating circumstances.

It's been too long though, so I think I'll have to set it up, because it did sound rather nice.
