What Do You Want Played At Your Funeral?

Pete Seeger - Little Boxes.

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

And the people in the houses
All go to the university,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
And there's doctors and there's lawyers
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

And they all play on the golf-course,
And drink their Martini dry,
And they all have pretty children,
And the children go to school.
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
And they all get put in boxes
And they all come out the same.

And the boys go into business,
And marry, and raise a family,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

(Oh, and I'd like the flowers to be reincarnations!)

Ah - you may well be right - great story though.

On that front I would have to list "I just called to say..." by Stevie Wonder.

I'd second the Tom Waits as well, to have "Picture in a frame" and "Soldier's things" they'd be crying in the aisles.

Having just been to a friend's funeral, the subject came up in the car on the way back home. My suggestion of Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb' seemed the one that would go best with my sense of humour.

We thought it would be best played as the coffin was brought in.

To be followed by 'Fire' by Arthur Brown at the end of proceedings would seem a good note to end on.

I have always loved Spike's requested epitaph of "I told you I was ill", it would be great for someone to write and play a piece under that title!!!

I prefer George the 6th's last words I think it was, " I'm feeling better now".
I do'nt care what they play, as long as I can be there to hear it, even the Smurfs

I always fancied joy division's the eternal... a tad self indulgent maybe....

or perhaps nick cave's where do we go now but nowhere...
