It’s Harry Warren night on WKCR. Currently a string of different versions of September In The Rain in sequence. Aha, that’s Coleman Hawkins. Oh, hang on, this one might be Coleman Hawkins. No, this is Ben Webster. No, this next one is definitely Ben Webster. Was the previous one Lester Young? Shit, this is difficult.
Blimey, I’m rubbish. One of them was Don Byas and another was Frankie Didn’t-catch-his-surname. At least Sid Gribetz said it was a rare recording. I hope no-one from the Jazz Police sees this - I might be told to hand in my beret.
Later (this is a five-hour show): Wow, he wrote At Last as well…. you learn something new every day…
