New (to me) phono stage day. Never heard the percussion (or the rhythms) like this Island Records – ILPS 9803. LP, 1985. :):):):):):)

The photo is by the great Swedish photographer Anders Peterson and was taken in the Cafe Lehmitz in the red light district of Hamburg, the Reeperbahn. He first went there in 1962 where he made friends with the prostitutes, their clients, transvestites etc. He produced the set shot over some years as a book called Cafe Lehmitz. One of the really great photo books of all time. I met him when he had a show of later work at the photographers gallery. He shot an excellent set in London as well in just a couple of weeks. He he an amazing ability to talk to and be accepted by some people that many of us wound regard as quite dangerous.

Yes, a fine record - I don’t think he reached those heights again. I have the 1st UK pressing too. Plus Young Marchbanks was at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1975.
I think ‘Darkness…’ is his best record, closely followed by ‘Tunnel of Love’, I do love ‘Born to Run’ though. Nebraska is obviously brilliant. Wish I’d seen him in the 70s mind.
