Vast Brexit thread merge part IV

That’s the gammon granddad from Newsnight last night. He’s been in the Labour Party for decades apparently!

Aye, former NUM official. As I mentioned earlier I once had to do an interview with him. It was excruciating. I was genuinely shocked at how thick he is.

Increasingly, it looks like the reality is that the Tories, for all their divisions, are, to a significant extent, coming together - perhaps that shouldn't be a surprise, given that Brexit is, and always has been, about Tory party self-interest. :(

This is one of those "horseshoe" arguments where eventually the ends swap and you end up using the other side's reasoning.

Fraser Nelson said:
The Boris deal gives companies a strong incentive to relocate to Northern Ireland. They’d benefit from frictionless EU access and future UK trade deals. Makes for a richer Ulster and, ergo, a stronger union.

Not true.

There has always been anti-EEC/EU members in Labour. A few prominent ones that come to mind are the Rt Hon Anthony Wedgewood Benn, Dennis Skinner and one Jeremy Corbyn. Good old fashioned socialists who still believe in the nation-state and that they have the policies to fix it.

Interesting that Tory Brexiter John Baron seeks assurances that the deal will default to a no deal if trade talks with the EU fail. Philip Hammond wants Johnson to assure him this won't happen before he will support the deal.

As I’ve said many times, Brexit is a Tory creation from start to finish.
First a weak and incompetent Prime Minister put forward the referendum. He did that to protect Tory seats from Farage and to appease the right wing scumbags in his party.

Then the incompetent Mrs May went to the country thinking she could get a big majority, failed and did a disgusting deal with the DUP just to cling onto power.

Now we have the ERG, the fascist wing of the Tory Party backing a deal that’s going to make their rich Tory backers even more money.

All Tories are pure scum. That’s their MP’s, their activists and anyone who votes for them. The party of misery for every working class person.

Just because there's anit-EU sentiment in most parties, it doesn't make Brexit any less about Tory party self-interest - Cameron called the referendum to try to put an end to the decades of infighting in the Tory party over Europe, and to stave off a perceived electoral threat to the Tories from UKIP.

Are you still up for the bet - you donate £50 to charity if 6 or more Labour MPs vote with the Tories, Tony (via me) pays £50 if fewer than 6 vote with them?

As I told you earlier the bet was offered to Tony. He didn’t respond. Apart from running the risk of being accused of being a complete arselicker, I fail to see what your interest is. Are you his agent or financial advisor perhaps.

Maybe just give Tony a load of cash to put on the horses tomorrow seeng as you’re feeling generous.

Oh we've never been in any doubt here! Ian Lavery is not much better. I was shocked when he was promoted to his current position. Both are corrupt ex NUM officials.

No arse licking, I was just wondering if you’d put your money where you’re mouth was for a good cause. Question answered.

Christ, that's raab doublethink all over again. They'll benefit from the thing we will willingly leave behind. How do these idiots hold these two positions at the same time?

How on earth can anyone follow this stupidity?

I suppose it doesn't seem so stupid if you're lining up a lucrative position at a disaster capitalism financial outfit after your spell in politics is done (and the country is ruined).

Yes I'd expect nothing less from those you describe but the '17.4 million' leavers nodding along and proclaiming their EU busting victory I find bewildering.

The original comment was directed towards Tony in response to something he’d posted. For some reason you decided to poke your nose in.
PS It’s “put your money where your mouth is”. Who do you think you are Ronnie Campbell?
