Trump Part 18

Perhaps they're planning to wipe their a***s with their new gun ? it's probably easier than finding a grocery store that still has toilet paper. The trick is to make sure you didn't accidentally leave a round in the chamber, or ... kaboom. A second a**hole.

I've given up trying to understand Americans. In the coronavirus thread, I put this article from the Irish Times:

https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/so...es-to-the-sound-of-a-different-drum-1.4203718

I shared it with my US agent, whom I know to be a fine, intelligent gentleman (although I'm now starting to wonder). He quoted this sentence:

A country where, in an article published on March 3rd, Jeremy Warner, an associate editor at the Daily Telegraph, said the quiet part loud: “Not to put too fine a point on it, from an entirely disinterested economic perspective, the Covid-19 might even prove mildly beneficial in the long term by disproportionately culling elderly dependents.”

and said that this was a reflection of the evils of socialism. I pointed out that the gentleman in question was an editor of the Daily Telegraph, a publication very supportive of the Conservative government, and that this therefore was more about the evils of rampant capitalism. He replied that the press in the USA was "extreme left wing" and was seizing on the virus problem to attack the White House. I replied that, as most business people read the Wall Street Journal and that everyone else watched Faux News (both run by The Dirty Digger), the press could hardly be seen as extreme left wing - and if he thought that the NYT and WaPo were "extreme left wing", he really didn't know what that meant. Besides, I said, wouldn't anyone sensible want the clown in the White House replaced ASAP? He went quiet after that!

I really don't get it. How can anyone who is obviously no fool fall for this obvious nonsense? An extreme example of tribalism at work? My tribe, right or wrong? A determination to believe in the state religion of the USA, which is the USA itself?

I can't claim to understand this either, but the culprit may be extreme isolated and fact-free information bubbles a lot of people live in.

You can show them a legit video of Trump saying X, and they will refuse to believe it. They will claim it is fake, edited, out of context, but they will refuse to accept it.

Hypothetical Q: Has Donald Trump had a test to determine if he's been infected by the coronavirus?

https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/1239641829668261893?s=20

A1: Yes, of course he has. That's the sort of answer I would expect from anyone who has had a quick nasal swab.

A2: No, he hasn't, and the BS was rambling and a bit subpar.

Joe

to be perfectly honest, as transparent as trump is, i have no idea wtf is going on here or what his motives would be.

Vuk,

Supreme leader does not want to appear vulnerable, stupid or weak. A positive test result would be a major blow to his candidacy.

Joe

...along with removing any downside to Brexit from the annals of history. A great shame because the election was going to be "perfect. Everything would have been absolutely perfect"...

His motives are to get through the PR problem of each day, treating each day, as he told his staff early on, as an episode of a reality show.

Trump Now Claims He Always Knew the Coronavirus Would Be a Pandemic
The president tried to rewrite his history with advising Americans about the coronavirus. His own words prove him wrong.

“This is a pandemic,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/us/politics/trump-coronavirus.html

i'd be willing to bet he didn't know the word pandemic until this year.

As I have been saying for the last couple of weeks! (postponing the election part)
If the election does not happen for whatever reason, Trump is still out Jan 20th according to the Constitution. If no new elected President, Speaker of House of Representatives steps in. If the House elections also did not happen, there would still be 2/3 of the Senate in office, who would designate a President Pro Tem of the Senate, and THAT person would get the job. Would likely be Democrat Patrick Lehey of Vermont.

Of course, Trump can go non-constitutional, mainly if the army is behind him. Easiest way is to get a martial law regime in place, get the army into a mode of governing in a summary way. But army would not likely follow a martial law declaration that was blatantly a power grab. First there has to be disorder, so the army has a 'legitimate' mission to restore order.

Watch out for administration moves to promote disorder. Provocations against scapegoat minorities might fill the bill....
