The 2019 F1 season.

It is becoming clearer. For example the STR is very similar to the RBR in terms of actual performance. No wonder Cyril is so stressed about it.

As I have already stated, the midfield has closed up. Haas are still a bit ahead but the gap has closed since last season to Haas and to the front runners.

Very difficult to extract full performance from any car today, which is shown by how far apart most team mates are (Merc and Ferrari drivers were much better in this regards).

Whilst the STR cars do seem to have similar performance characteristics to the RBR, in the end Max was able to put in a good lap, that was clearly ahead of the STR, even if you factor in track improvement during qualifying.

Guess as they’re one of the few with a stable driver line up, there’s been a few drivers moves from the teams. Read a good things about Norris from Qualifying.

As to F1 appealing to new viewers, if they're turning off long lasting fans like me, where do they expect to get their audience from in the future?

I believe that they are after a different kind of audience. I am also one of those 1960s' dinosaurs, when F1 was a minor sport for enthusiasts. Bernie Ecclestone's seeking to make it into a major sporting event, with all the attendant commercialism and ballyhoo, means that it had to appeal to an audience outside that old core audience. So, I believe that the powers that be really don't care about the relatively small (and diminishing) core of old-time fans, so long as they can attract more, shall we say, superficial fans. Hence the ever-shifting rules in an attempt to provide more drama for those with zero interest in the cars themselves and the technology behind them.

I’ve heard Liberty are considering getting out of F1 quite soon.

Bring back Bernie!

;)

Perhaps with a clean slate to start from that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

Finally got to watch quali. Great to see Norris doing so well on his first race meeting and McLaren no longer with Williams propping up the bottom of the grid. It seems clear Sainz would have been in the fight as well was it not for Kubica puncture ahead of him.

Don't forget Ferrari were a similar time behind Merc last year here and went on to win the race. This is one of HAM fav tracks so I think is will be closer at other tracks and the lead is not what it might seem.

It's a shame to see the huge Rockit logo plastered everywhere on the Williams team. Williams being present in F1 is part of its heritage, for me, more so than Ferrari. Not seeing the logo on the car is a bit miserable!

Do you think that there will be a similar quali/race pace delta that we saw last year with Maranello?

I am expecting it to be closer but really I don't know.

The weather conditions + time of day changes things and so cars that were a bit slower in qualifying can be faster, a bit like what we saw last year.

Well the race held my attention, this season may not be completely tedious.

They seem to have replaced Fleetwood Mac with Pink Floyd, after all these years.

The Chain was the BBC theme tune for F1. Sky has always had something different.

Not watched as about to fly to NY NY but saw the reports. Well done BOT. Must have felt good dominating like that. Looking forward to viewing soon.

I was hoping Bottas was going to start winning some races, and fastest lap when his tyres where shreds, good on him.

Nice to not see a Ferrari on the podium as well! Good day overall.
