Any thoughts on an 620es cd player? Picked one up a few years back for little money plays nicely but does not sound as good as a Naim CD5. Wondering do these players benefit from support shelves tip toes etc?

At the age of the 620es replacement of the old tired electrolytics is likely to bring the biggest benefit.

The CDP-620 is listed as BU-1 laser mech and CX20152 DAC

The CDP-620ES II is listed as PCM-53 and BU-1C.

The BU-1 is a superb mech. I'd expect the 620ES II with the PCM-53 to be the better sounding unit.

I beleive I have the 620ea11 but how can I confirm? What are the visual differences?

Worth saying, I once had a TA FB 940 R. Lots of power and it was a fun-sounding if slightly uncivilised amp. Would be interested how the slightly older but higher up the range ES models compare.

I had one of those amps years ago and the sacd cd player too..
