There's your answer. I've done the same with LS3/5As. Nothing worked for me so I'm back with them and don't plan on wasting any more time!I've tried Naim Credos, Linn Isobarics, Neat Vitos (once the neat flagship) Quad 57s and refurbed Ditton 66s. But I always end up back with ES14s, must have bought them 4 times!
Well, if this latest purchase doesn’t do it that will certainly be that! There's your answer. I've done the same with LS3/5As. Nothing worked for me so I'm back with them and don't plan on wasting any more time!
Going OT here. This interview is new to me, & I enjoyed it. Thanks!I know this has been linked in other (of the countless) ES14 threads but still a good read.
An interview with Robin Marshall, ex-Epos designer
Interview made last year by the student audio club at the university in Hong Kong. I nicked this from the Pink Fish forum. Q - You are probably best known as the founder of Epos and for the products you designed under the Epos badge. Is that right? Epos engaged a rather short period in my life. I...www.stereonet.com
Did you try the ARCs?It took a pair of Shahinian Obelisk's to replace my Epos ES14's, wish I'd never traded them in though.
Don't think I heard the ARCS's at the time. We went to demo equipment stands and the speakers used were Obs, later went back to hear the Obs again and bought them. Big mistake was hearing the Hawks, although they were beyond my budget.Did you try the ARCs?
Having heard the DIAP, HAWKS and having had the OBLSK at home for a while, I’ve always felt that the ARCs were a bit of a sweet-spot with Dick’s creations.
They do need quite a bit of power to sound their best, IMHO…
Maybe the OP would enjoy the ARCs?
The Obelisks were difficult, my Naim 135's were ok until wanted to turn it up.Arcs are very good. Far more wife friendly than Obs and they also need less driving -They work well with a Nait 2 for example.
.
Yes Brilliant loudspeakersREFERENCE3A DE CAPO are a somewhat similar design to your beloved ES14 - in a more modern configuration.
Like the ES14, the little DA CAPOs have a real following.
Might be worth exploring…
Interestingly I had a pair of EPOS ES11s back in the early nineties whilst in the trade and I’d listen to Bariks SBLs DBLs and they just could not do what the ES11s did in the midrange Saras where fun to listen to especially Rega however it was the Shahinain ARC that I fell in love with and had a pair in 93 that I lived with until 2005 down graded to a pair of MS11s the floor standing version a few years ago back to Shahinain ARCS late 90s then a pair of 2004 then obelisks of the same age and now onto the Obs 2 which has been a great journey and have loved all the shahinains. I get what you mean the EPOS are extremly good for a forward firing loud speakerI'd like to get a replacement for these speakers. They are an old design but whatever it is they do I always end up back with them.
I've tried Naim Credos, Linn Isobarics, Neat Vitos (once the neat flagship) Quad 57s and refurbed Ditton 66s. But I always end up back with ES14s, must have bought them 4 times! This is probably the best sounding set, single wired with the upgraded capacitor which sorted the irritating treble. I always use them with glued in bungs.
I'm not sure what it is that brings me back, I guess it is the midrange but I don't know. Part of it is they are standmounts so the cabinet doesn't sing along or perhaps I just prefer how they look.
I have finished with amps and turntables so perhaps a Technics G will replace the Amadeus GTa, perhaps not. The Audio Note pre-power is definitely staying and off back for a service.
So what should I consider? Thinking about £1000 used.
Well, I think I’ve done it. At quite a cost and I got them used. Trenner&Friedl Arts on dedicated wooden stands that look like metal. Even used I never thought I’d ever spend that kind of money! Still, they tell me that you don‘t live forever but I don’t believe that.Having said that and living with the ES11s I never warmed to the ES14s and preferred the Saras to them despite their faults. Nowadays really do think speaker choice comes down to compromise. I was wax lyrical with the Obelisks only to now have the Obs2 and be blown away by them. Anyway good hunting or just remain happy with the ES14s
Ever thought about the Shahinian Super Elf? Rare as F mindWell, I think I’ve done it. At quite a cost and I got them used. Trenner&Friedl Arts on dedicated wooden stands that look like metal. ES11 were a bit boomy in my old room, but were stunning near-field, connected to a Naim Nait 1.Interestingly I had a pair of EPOS ES11s back in the early nineties whilst in the trade and I’d listen to Bariks SBLs DBLs and they just could not do what the ES11s did in the midrange
I honestly can't remember if we did hear the Arc's, I can remember Phil at Phonography had an old pair of Hawks for sale and we did hear those. I've never heard the Diapason but would love to.Did you try the ARCs?
