Prince Charles

November 5th is nearly upon us!
Yes, but the more interesting November 5th is 1688, not 1605.

On November 5th 1688, William of Orange and his army landed in Brixham, Devon, beginning the series of events that established the primacy of Parliament - the so-called 'Glorious Revolution'. It's interesting because, having effectively already elected a king in William III, Parliament later passed the Act of Settlement which - mainly for religious reasons - asserts that Parliament, rather than the previous hereditary custom, has the power to alter the succession and choose its own monarch.

Ben Elliot is a nephew of Prince Charles. Owner of Quintessentially which gets rich people what they want. He is also co-Chair of the Tory Party and a leading fundraiser for it. Unwise of the Royal family.

No love from me for the royal family. The very top of the establishment. I'm frequently surprised by people who moan about 'the establishment' and the associated crony behaviours, but they love the royals. I don't get it. I think the royal family is simply the very top layer of that.
