Photo Printing Services

Any recommendations? Or are they all much of a muchness. Will I end up with bright, oversaturated images, whoever I go with?

I'm looking to get prints a small number of photos to initially, but might be tempted by framing options, Perspex blocks and the like.

@droodzilla

None specifically but, based on personal experience, my advice would be to find a local outfit you can visit and discuss your requirements with and see samples of their work, rather than using a remote Internet only service.

This question might get more responses in the photo room. I recall @Marchbanks had some scans and jazz photos printed by a pfm member and was very pleased with the results.

Yes, I’ve had a number of prints made by @Lefty including some prints of William Gottlieb photos. Full story here…

…which reminds me, he’s been waiting about six months for me to finalise details on another commission! (Sorry, Amar - I’ll get round to it eventually!)

There’s a link to his services in his sig.

Most kind sir!

Thank you for the kind words and no problems whatsoever. I'll be here when you're ready

For general photo printing I use Digitalab, but you need a trade account. They have an associated public company at the same address called River & Coast which I assume goes through the same production system. I have had 100s of prints ordered through them & they have been consistently excellent. They will frame as well, but things start to get expensive. Much better to get standard frames or through Easyframe for instance. For general printing I wouldn't use anyone else

For more specialist products I've found quality has become more of a lottery. I've had good results in the past from Photobox but not used them in the last few years. I used Cewe for some products last year which were fine but have just had to return a whole order because the printing was so bad:

I'm just about to place an order with Whitewall who I'm hoping are better

For fine art printing I started off with Digitalab - very good but expensive; have had some done by Lefty - very good as well, and also used Andy Farrer who is within travel distance if I need something in a hurry

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reminder. 5 years ago I started a conversation with @Lefty and then clean forgot! Hopefully I’ll get it sorted now.
