Why do people seem to be leaving out the guitar/piano? Rhythm section by definition includes these if there is one in the band. Not sure how you could possibly put Tony Williams/Ron Carter in there without Herbie, Elvin Jones/Jimmy Garrison without McCoy, Paul Motian/Scott LaFaro without Bill Evans, Keith Moon/John Entwistle without Pete Townsend etc?

I take your point, but are you saying the Bill Evans Trio was just a rhythm section?
