  1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Love Island, harmless fun or dangerous trend

Not exclusively the fault of appearing on the show but highly likely to be a constituent part.

Then why support it by watching it if you think it might be damaging to the participants.

Any risks to someone's mental wellbeing should be dealt with appropriately and effectively. .

These style of programmes succeed for broadcasters as they are low cost, low brow, easy to make in lockdown.
If I see one more bloody programme with the word ‘celebrity’ in it will scream. It’s usually the same half dozen crap comics rotated from show to show.
Comics? Sarky, camp, nobodies, in a race to mediocrity.

The simple fact that shows such as these use peoples being upset, crying, getting into verbal and sometimes physical altercations, being bitchy, catty etc etc... and that is regarded as entertainment, is what horrifies me and boils my piss. I would genuinely be less offended if they screened hard core porn as at least "it is what it is".

I can see it now in the average viewers room "EEE the look on 'er face! did 'yer hear what she called him!? WTF!? EEE I'd be mortified if anyone called me that!.... and hark at him1" etc etc etc....

it drills right through the bottom of the barrel...

Unfortunately I've been in too many houses where the "lady" of the house regards such sub shite as required viewing and soon as the news, any documentary, political commentary, or wildlife program etc etc comes on it's "and yer can turn that shite off!!"

I think a lot of people watch and read things that they’re probably aware could be damaging to one’s mental health. There are so many potential things that could be. Can we stop them all? Humans will be humans and consume them regardless.

I’m all for taking mental health seriously and dealing with it appropriately and effectively. As someone who has struggled for years with it myself, I’m all too aware of how debilitating it can be.

No but we can reduce the risk by getting rid of those things we know (and can prove) to be factors.

don't kid yourself you are younger generation. Had you said <25 maybe.

As it happens LO on the surface is fun but it raises some very serious mental health issues and the lack of long term support for contestants smacks of exploitation by the production company.

I do agree re mental health issues and the lack of long term support from the production company. That needs to change.

Suppose at 29, I’m entering the 30 club in January. So not as young as I once was! :D

The 20 something year old bloke in my local off licence went on it, all attention seeking. And he got it - I reckon sales of drinks aimed at the female of the species must have doubled since it aired. ;)

Yeah, sorry deej, you're now an AT. About Thirty, and the marketing demographic bods have a neat little box for you. No longer young, but not a washed up old git like me who only spends money on bicycles and pension scheme s.

Given how I feel about God awful shows like Love Island, Towie etc. one show that would probably fall into 'reality tv' is First Dates on C4 and this is a show I actually really quite enjoy :D Genuine people, looking for love and being matched with other like minded folk. The production company do quite a good job (on the whole) of matching the couples, with many being good matches. I appreciate it will be edited to a certain style, however, I do love to watch the chemistry, body langauge, physcology and the general getting to know each other on this show. It can be very funny and at times, quite moving as well!
