Leveson 2

But you are not at all bothered by the far right, in the person of Max Mosley, funding the deputy leader of the Labour Party to do his bidding in Parliament?

Not so long ago Labour would have had sufficient principle do be on the right side of this.

I’m pretty sure the Max Moseley of today wouldn’t associate himself as “far-right”, and certainly his supporting Levinson is anything but. I’m all for freedom of speech, but our largely tax-exile-owned printed press is clearly off any rails when it comes to accuracy, taste and basic decency. I’m a big fan of crippling them by pressuring their advertisers via the ever-wonderful #StopFundingHate, but some basic legal accountability would be very useful too now the political right have all but removed legal aid from those who may need it in this context.

  • Boing! Slimy Dacre and Murdoch will have to think again if they thought their new boy on the Tory front bench could give them a free pass...
  • Peers have inflicted a fresh defeat on the government by voting to legislate for a new Leveson-style press inquiry by a majority of 39.
This majority is 10 higher than the majority for a Leveson two inquiry in the Lords when peers first defeated the government on this in January, suggesting there is no evidence peers are minded to back down. If anything, they may have been encouraged by the fact that the government majority on this topic in the Commons when MPs debated it last week was just nine. The Guardian.

While Tory friend of Murdoch & Co., Matt, Five Thousand Fridges, Hancock might have done Murdoch a favour by killing off Leveson, it’s gratifying to note that Murdoch’s UK operation made an operating loss of £91million in 2017/18 and had to pay out 1,000 claims for phone hacking and other shit, with more still on the way. It eclipses the £11m bunged to Rebekkaaah before she was rehired and promoted. No doubt the Australian cadaver will want to know what her business plan is to recoup the losses.

The Stokes front page is prurient rubbernecking of the lowest order. It's pretty damned obvious, if the Stokes family wished to discuss their tragic history they would have already done so?

The chickens have come home to roost. A KC stood outside court today to accuse Piers Morgan and colleagues of lying under oath in evidence Parliament, the Leveson Inquiry and misleading the Stock Exchange.

13 min in, video section.

Wonderful to see. Hopefully the Daily Mail and Sun will take a pounding soon too.
Dacre has tried to stall and obstruct proceedings against his rag but his time is coming. Let’s not forget the parliamentary friend who tried to bury the whole stinking pile along with Leveson.

Who knew!! No surprise that a succession of Tory Governments arranged to bury Leveson 2.

I have been banging this campaign trail since the start and been called all the names under the sun for wanting to curb the freedom of the press, but as I keep telling people the majority of the UK press don't deserve any freedom... they are irresponsible scum and today's ruling once again lays this bare. However, I know by now that nothing will come of it, Morgan will still be on TV spouting his vile brand of politics and the papers will continue to peddle their lies and gossip with no real fear.

Freedom of the press is necessary in a democratic nation. It should not be mistaken for license to print whatever they like, whether true or blatant lies. We humans have freedom of expression under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act. That does not allow us to say anything we like. Freedom of the press is an analogous, and equally vital right, but similarly comes with some reasonable limits to what is and should be permissible.

The problem is that the media has become too powerful, and abuses its right with impunity. In much the same way that normal constraints on freedom of expression don’t apply to those who can afford SLAPPs and the like. So for those calling for freedom of the press, the answer is ‘yes, by all means but let’s have it done right, shall we?’

Which is how you get where we are today... oh what's the ****ing point... I've been round this so many time and it always ends in argument!

There he is, inviting you to believe his word over the findings of a High Court judge. He moved sweatily on to attacking the plaintiff (by way of distraction) with comments about his ‘California tan’. How very Brit tabloid, the dead cat he threw down has a California tan.
