Lenco users/enthusiasts, your feedback please …

............. Remember I had a PTP modded one here about 18 months ago and I couldn't believe how average it was considering all the hype...
With respect, I think that making a judgement based upon one particular example of any t'table, may not be valid.
As for 't'table sound', I'm not too sure what that means, all mine sound slightly different, which isn't really surprising given that they all have different arm, cartridge and 'phono stage combinations, and individually vary in the amount of sound that is decernable when one puts an 'ear' to the motor board or plinth, in fact, when it was last in use, my TD124II was actually the noisiest of my 5 tables. But they all rotate at the correct speed, and allow the content of what is a variable 'medium' (records) to be enjoyed.
Finally, one has to remember what is being discused is a relatively inexpensive machine, my self assembled PTP cost much less than my other t'tables (G99, 401, LP12), and to my now admittedly 'ancient' ears, isn't outclassed by the others, but of course I don't have any experience of the exotic t'tables which are now available and are priced accordingly.
Regards
Mike K.

I don't take any notice of what others say. 99.999% have never experienced what I have here. I've had pretty much every turntable and tonearm here through my demo studio over the last 35 years so I am only interested in what I hear, and what I have compared against other good reference turntables. I'm not saying the Lenco's are rubbish, far from it, as I used to service them in the 1980s, but when you put them up against good modern turntables today and start to compare them, it can be a little embarrassing, even if certain people have messed about with them. Remember I had a PTP modded one here about 18 months ago and I couldn't believe how average it was considering all the hype...
If you had posted IME, and IMO, I would have said nothing. But making your post a statement of fact, which can influence the inexperienced, it needed offsetting by pointing out there are other experiences and opinions. I do have a PTP6 and an Oracle Delphi here; they are different but both have strengths.

Just bear in mind that a Lenco no matter what you do to it is not going to better a well set up Garrard 301/401. As long as you know that then you won't be disappointed. I have had a few Lenco's through our demo room over the years including several PTP modded ones and I thought they were all very average sounding...
Not heard a decent implementation of a PTP then.
My turntable design allowed different top plinths/motor units to be swapped out - had a 401,SP10 ,G88 and a PTP.
The PTP stayed currently singing with a FR64S and Miyajima Madake.

I've had more than my fair share of Lenco's, built a few PTP's too.
I have preference for a Garrard, but once fettled with heavy plinth and the only original Lenco parts being the platter and motor* they can be an excellent TT.

There's one of mine at Emporium, they've had it years. Built specifically for Groovemaster tonearm it had DC motor that I considered worse than original. Fantastic plinth though Beech MU25 with Corian top.

*Unless your lucky, you need a few motors to find a quiet one

Not managed to get around to hearing a Lenco yet, or any idler for that matter. I had thought about doing one but at my rate of project completion I'd likely be retired before getting it done.

It's not just time, it's also yet another mechanical means of spinning a record that I'd have to research and learn, my head is already about full to capacity to be honest.

The TD-124 is an idler deck (albeit one confused further with a belt). Pretty sure I played you mine didn’t I?

PS Lencos are wonderfully simple things and with your woodworking skills you could build an amazing one pretty fast.

Sorry Tony I'd forgotten about your 124!

Although it's hard to judge something out of your own system, I suppose I meant amongst the very many decks I've had I'd never had one here to listen to. Same goes for a Notts as well.

I heard a std L75 and have never been satisfied with a belt drive since. I’ve tried all sorts, the last was Notts Hyperspace which being made so close I really wanted to love, but just left me cold.

It could be just noise and distortion, but there’s percussive drive with idlers that’s not matched by anything else. If you get it, nothing else will do.

I had always wanted to own a Lenco, but since I don't do much in the way of mods or restoration, I couldn't find what for me would be the perfect example. Until last weekend. A beautiful L75/S, completely restored went up for sale locally. I acted quickly, found out the seller was also interested in a lot of gear that I owned, and we agreed on a trade. And I got my Lenco.

I'm frankly shocked by how quiet it is. I've owned several idlers in the past(mostly Dual's, Elac's, a couple of Garrard Lab 80's) and really enjoyed them. But this table is on another level. Easily as quiet as any of my belt or direct drives, yet retaining that wonderful idler power and drive. I couldn't be more pleased. The seller is also a wood working specialist, and a machinist. What you see is all of his work. Inside and out he did a wonderful job(I also got a Sparta TC-12 broadcast table from him, which is a rebranded Russco Cue Master).
