Labour Leader: Keir Starmer VII

Lubner is the Party's biggest donor - his family supported South Africa and aided sanctions busting. A proper bag of scum by the look of things...

A political bombshell. Labour leads in Scotland, says YouGov.

Will Sir Keir's majority become the stuff of legend? I would not rule it out.

NEW: Labour leads SNP in Westminster voting intention for first time since indy ref @yougov finds.
Labour 33% (+1)
SNP 31% (-2)
Tories 14% (-6)
Reform 7% (+5)
LD 7% (+2)
Greens 5% (-)

Here's a good piece on the Cass review getting all the highlights yesterday

Cass Review opens door to more attacks on trans people

A deeply flawed report that boosts Tories, bigots and transphobes

"She added, “They are medicalising being trans. They are also scaremongering about ‘irreversible care’.”

The Tories will use Cass to go on the offensive—and Labour is going along with their transphobia. Wes Streeting, Labour’s shadow health secretary, pledged the party’s “support for the Cass Review’s evidence-led recommendations”.

The Tories will use Cass to go on the offensive—and Labour is going along with their transphobia. Wes Streeting, Labour’s shadow health secretary, pledged the party’s “support for the Cass Review’s evidence-led recommendations”.

Trans journalist Freddy McConnell has a damning piece in the Graun today carefully detailing the failings of the Cass report and it's consequences:

If the Cass review was held under a black light, we would see the fingerprints of anti-trans ideology. I don’t believe Cass shares this way of thinking, I think she believes in evidence-based healthcare and that trans children exist. However, allowing her review to be so heavily influenced by bias is a critical failure that is hers to own.
...
Dr Cass, appeasement might get you through this short-term discomfort in the media spotlight, but please remember: it isn’t your healthcare, your rights or your everyday dignity they are trying to take away.

And the headline the Graun chose to go with?

Hilary Cass’s proposals are mostly common sense.

Un-f*cking-believable.

Starmer is courting Tory voters so hard it’s almost as though he wants to lose his own

Frances Ryan

Labour is cosying up to the Sun. Getting its backing could end up looking like a political coup, or the ultimate act of selling out

The fact that Starmer appeals to right wingers is the problem.

If the problem is 14 years of Tory austerity, Starmer is not going the move the needle on that a fraction. He has explicitly promised to crank the austerity handle in the exact same way as the Tories.

Starmer is continuity Tory. Which is who he appeals to.

This would be where the money's actually going then:

Labour aims to raise defence spending to 2.5% of GDP

Starmer’s comments come before visit to Barrow, where he is to promise nuclear deterrent is ‘bedrock’ of security plan

It's almost as if he has realised you have to appeal to a broad majority of people in the UK to win an election...
Do the broad majority support more privatisation and more austerity? Because that is what a vote for Labour will get you

“Broad majority” has a very particular meaning in British political discourse: it’s basically code for “Tiny minority of very nasty right wing ****s whom I, a Grownup Politics Understanderer, mostly agree with.”
