Digital music with analogue soul

The NaimUniti 2 is the new and improved version of our original, revolutionary all-in-one player. It spawned an entire range of accessible and versatile music streaming systems that offer the kind of stunning sound quality previously thought possible only through separates.

As well as being able to play UPnP streams at up to 24bit/192kHz resolution via a wired or wireless connection, NaimUniti 2 incorporates a CD player, a 70W per channel amplifier, six digital inputs, built in Spotify Connect, Bluetooth (aptX) connectivity, a DAB+/DAB/FM and internet radio tuner as well as a USB interface that enables playback from an iPod or high-resolution digital audio from a USB memory stick. Technology & Craft

NaimUniti 2 has an analogue heart. Its NAIT 5si-derived integrated amplifier beats true to our long established design philosophies and is the foundation of the NaimUniti 2's audio quality.

But in parallel with audio quality, it is the immense digital versatility of NaimUniti 2 that sets it apart from any other all-in-one audio product. Alongside CD audio, FM and DAB radio, and internet radio streams at multiple bit rates, NaimUniti 2 can play audio files in MP3, Windows Media-formatted content, AAC, Apple Lossless, FLAC and WAV formats. And thanks to an internal DAC with its five 24bit/192kHz-capable S/PDIF inputs, external digital audio sources, such as satellite TVs or games consoles, are a breeze for NaimUniti 2.

Analogue audio connectivity is not forgotten either. Five analogue inputs can accommodate CD players or portable music players via rear panel phono sockets, a DIN phone input and a front-panel mini-jack. Hand-built in Salisbury England

All analogue input sockets on the NAC-N 272 are individually hand wired to the main board to enhance mechanical decoupling. The board itself is mounted on a system of shoulder bolts which releases any tension which can adversely affect sound quality. The sound critical resistors used arrive at Naim matched to within 5%. This already high tolerance is improved before assembly by hand-matching to within margin of just 1%. We then go even further by introducing a slight mechanically compliant bend in the legs of each one during assembly. We take this care and attention because we know it can help to make the difference in producing the incredible sound on which we’ve built our reputation.

Hybrid Volume Control & Class-A Headphone Amp

The NAC-N 272 volume control is derived from the design of the flagship Statement NAC S1 control. It offers smooth operation and perfect level match­ing while a Class-A single-ended headphone amplifier makes the most of high-performance headphones. As soon as headphones are plugged in, the output current drive is automatically turned up five times to give dynamic drive for all headphone impedances.

The NAC-N 272 is a high-performance Naim preamplifier with quality hand-matched analogue components selected after listening tests. Great care has been taken to protect the signal path from sources of interference. The digital and analogue sections of the product communicate using optical isolation chips which minimises the impact of the noisy digital circuitry and power supply on the critical audio components.

Digital Technology

The NAC-N 272’s digital pedigree is formidable. It shares the incredibly powerful DSP (Digital Signal Processor) used by the reference NDS Network Player and features Naim’s proprietary digital audio buffering and filtering techniques. This helps to eliminate jitter and optimises the audio stream for the best musical performance from any digital source. It also means that the NAC-N 272 can play back DSD64 files.
