(No longer made so) a used set of Atratus 3 shouldn’t disappoint. You get a lot for your money.

That would be my recommendation too. In fact it’s what I still use and I’ve tried quite a number of much more expensive cables.

DIY - Klotz MC5000 (screened twin core, around £3 per metre, inc, p&p), plus RCAs of your choice - I prefer Neutrik Profi NF2C- B/2, available for around £14 per pair inc p&p.

Available at considerably inflated prices ready-made on EPay and elsewhere.

+1 my own favorite cable and cheap to do DIY

Alan

I've not tried the Maplins cable, but from a quick Google, MC5000 is the Klotz equivalent in terms of build, without going into fine details of spec'.

Bought a couple of pairs Van Damme orange interconnects the other day for my vintage cassette player. They're great. £25 for four.

what is your opinion regarding the best inexpensive interconnect rca cables?

Sorry for not quoting for post earlier but fwiw we use these basic interconnects which cost us £1/each.

Btw, this basic interconnect was being used as part of a system consisting of a £5k streamer, £3.5k amplifier, £1.4k loudspeakers and a £3.4k subwoofer.

I would suggest that the main thing would be to compare screened v. unscreened.

I strongly suspect that most domestic hifi is close to a wall and the boxes are close together, and behind the boxes is what seems to be mile upon mile of every kind of cable, including power leads.

When I tried MC5000 it was replacing some Deltec interconnects that, a while ago, were very well reviewed. The difference was one of those night v. day moments. I had not realised the amount of low level background pink noise there was, until it wasn't there.

I've tried nothing else since MC5000 but very strongly suspect that 99+% of the benefit of it is down to screening, not the particular cable itself.

Sommer cables often get overlooked but they are very good foo free cables .
Agreed, been making all my cables with Sommer for several years now. Recently made a balanced one out of their Karbocab cable and it definitely was an improvement over one of their cheaper mic cables. Bit stiff but still workable.

I love cable threads, especially as I have some of those ' £1.00 State of the Art ' cables in a box.
Makes me feel good inside...

I have some in my odds and sods Hifi box, not in my system because they’re dire, but just keep them to remind me how bad it could be.
