Favourite forum member name

i should add the Avatar is the existing sibling cats.

Always thought it was a sheep auction - must get to Specsavers soon!

I use the name of a famous female model on a DIY site, I’m sure it doesn’t fool anyone but equally sure it saves me from a lot of the sort of abuse you get when asking a naive question about plumbing in a bidet or suchlike.

I do find myself intrigued by many usernames, and how their owners chose them, so I’m enjoying this thread, thanks Marchbanks (which, coupled with the whole persona that goes with it, is another of my favourites).
Persona? Are you suggesting I am the product of some twisted soul’s imagination? But then, perhaps you are too? Sue as invented by Steve, or vice-versa. Maybe we all are - that would certainly explain the attitudes of some posters. Could everyone here be a manifestation of Tony’s psyche without knowing it, with this site being some kind of blog? If that’s the case, he is in urgent need of help.

I'm Pink therefore I am.

I always spot Burrells Boy - because I am also a Burrells Boy, son of Ken (not Kenny) in my case.

This was one of the first forums I joined where I needed a name and I just used my initials which, with hindsight, was a major failure of imagination. I think there should be a deed poll clause on pfm so we can have a new name but keep our old posts.

I've always read it it as 'fox is well sly', because foxes are proverbially sly.

It's actually the name of the the lead character in a contemporary adaptation of Volpone. Previously played by George C Scott, Jackie Gleason and Richard Dreyfuss - I started getting called it after a British production came to our town in the 90's with Derek Griffiths in the lead, I guess, because I am a sly Fox. And, for some reason, possibly related to copious pot smoking, we all gave each other elaborate nicknames. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sly_Fox

My current avatar is a terrible and rather obscure pun. And Hawkwind and Fire is the name of the band my wife thought I was going to see a few years ago.

If you want all of your old posts to appear under a new name I think you can ask for that to be done, although you probably need to make an application in triplicate, give a blood sample and show your passport. I seem to remember a member doing this recently when the Mafia caught up with him and he needed a whole new identity.

Ta. I studied the original Volpone at university, and jolly dull it was too.

When I was a nipper, sly fox was a game whereby one person faced a wall, and everyone else crept up on him/her, anyone moving when he/she turned round was out. Mrs H was baffled by the term; it transpired that Southern softies like her call the game 'Grandmother's footsteps'.

It must have been at least 25 years ago. I was working on a job when one of the guys came in and said "What's your porn star name?" - He said you had to take the first letter from your surname and swap it with the first letter of your first name. Do that and you’ll have my real name.

Before I got to your last sentence, I was thinking "Hoe Jutch".

Having never been a member of any forum before I just typed in my name. Now I'm stuck with it, as per usual....

I assumed it was a play on John French's nickname.
Yes, while “Not French” acknowledges such and is a play on my nationality.

My avatar is by one of my favourite photographers, Alfred Stieglitz, from his final period of work. It’s called Music #1. It does come over a bit gloomy as an avatar and I really must change it for a picture of my cat sometime.
