Ergo IX PFM purchase

OK a few photos as promised.

First plain birch with a Corian baffle, these ones have got WBT solid copper binding posts as well. I really like these, the Corian is a bit of a pain to get hold of but machines beautifully. For the upcoming kits I am going to supply black Valchromat baffles as standard which will recreate this look. I'll have some home demo units to send put into the wild soon as well.

Flamed Mahogany with leather baffles, really stunning.

Plain old oak, the owner was worried they'd look a bit plain next to these other posh woods but I think they looked really smart.

And lastly a pair of book matched burr walnut, these really are lovely, they were a right pain but worth the effort.

All for now, got loads of construction pictures as well i'll post sometime.

Link to image problem, Stefan. In the meantime...you've fixed it. ;)

So they're corian baffles then? Hmmm. Were the benefits of corian discussed? I can't recall. If you can use corian, can you use birch ply instead of MDF for the baffles?

I don't think the benefits were discussed. It's very stiff with high mass and as it's basically a dense plastic it's well damped as well. Grimm are using a very similar material as the baffles of their new model. MDF or ply would be equally fine for baffles I'd have thought, James' original had MDF baffles but mine are all made from ply, just because the boxes are made from ply so it was all to hand.

I couldn't hear any difference no, TBH the baffles are so small that once you get beyond a certain thickness they are well past stiff enough id have thought, any differences would be just down to internal damping of the material. At the moment I haven't got any way of measuring panel resonances, YET....

You've done the E-IX proud, Stefan. I might need to commission a pair in burl walnut and Corian for myself.

Stunning Stefan....your workmanship looks fabulous.

How much does a birch ply pair run to?

Stunning work, you should be proud and I'm sure James is enjoying seeing his design so beautifully produced.

Thanks again everyone, I'm humbled.

I've got a test mule pair that can be sent out for testing at home if any potential purchasers want a home demo, they can also be listened to here as well.

Thanks everyone for supporting this venture, it's one of many projects that has helped support my new company which is starting to grow now, especially since I started doing the frugal horn kits.

Stefan
