Why mess about with shielding a metre of mains cable when there's miles upon miles of unshielded wiring between the socket and the power plant? I can see the merit of using shielded wiring in a some industrial setting with high levels of EM noise, but there the whole building would be using it. In a normal home, the EM noise levels are not high enough to require such measures.
Of course, a shielded power lead won't do any damage either, so experiment away. Just be careful to get the wiring right. A faulty power cable can be lethal.
