Can - What's it all about?

Rather bizarrely, the Irish Post Office are currently using ‘I want more’ in their TV advertising. Quite took me by surprise (I’m over here on holiday).

I can now add Cannibalism II to Cannibalism I, did like the last track on I Yoo Do Right

Thanks for the youtube clips in this thread. As a big Stockhausen fan I feel this music should interest me.

Were they on LSD? The music has the same effect on me as shaman drumming. I find it depressing. Stockhausen's music has the opposite effect.

Strange, I shall persevere. I normally like atonality. I have the 2CD box of Deutsche Elektronische Musik somewhere with Can and numerous other artists in the same vein but only played it once.

Herb.....then you will like an LP box set called "Electronic Panorama" Its ultra rare. I had a library copy in my teens and taped it !

Slightly OT but in a similar vein, if you like early electronic music, this is a bargain, LP or CD.

Michael has done rather well at a Düsseldorf record fair. Fabulous looking German 1st press of Tago Mago. I’ll be very interested in what he makes of it vs. the current Spoon reissue. I’ve got the UK 1st press which has a totally different cover. Very interested what he makes of the Amon Düül album too. I’ve got a stunning looking Ohr 1st press that I paid a tenner for (Ha!), grades at a visual EX/NM, the vinyl looks pretty much as-new, though it is not quiet even after multiple cleans. Curious if they are all like that!

My Düül II is fine, here’s an old pic from another thread somewhere:

All UK UA/Liberty pressings aside from Hijack which is a US copy, and Phallus Dei which is the Sunset reissue. I’ve only got the one Düül I, and as described that’s a bit crackly. Must dig it out for a spin, I may not have played it since I bought the MP-500 and different carts tend to find a different place in the groove (a reason I seldom do audio gradings in the record shop!). I bought a few of the UK ones together in a lot about 20 or more years ago (Carnival, Lemmings, Live) and they were absolutely filthy with some white mould in the grooves (covers are ok though). A testament to just how absolutely essential a good wet vacuum cleaner is. Nothing less than a strong quiet EX now.

When I used to trog around record fairs in the 80s / 90s and then worked in a used vinyl store, I never found a non-Sunset "Phallus Dei". I don't think many copies made it here.

Yes, I’ve never seen one in the wild. It’s one whenever I see the original cover design on a dealer wall or in a rack I know it is a pirate!

Live In Cuxhaven turned up today. Controversial in some quarters (e.g. the Steve Hoffman forum) as apparently it is just the warm-up set and later that evening they blew the roof off, but what one hasn’t heard one can’t mourn. Obviously a much shorter serving than we are used to in this series being a single translucent turquoise slab of vinyl containing four 8-10 minute tracks. It is great though. I’m amazed by these live albums, again amazing stuff. They really work as an instrumental kind of Krautrock/fusion ensemble, I honestly reckon this stuff, as with the other two live albums, represents amongst their very best work. Right up there with the peak Liberty/UA stuff. Just buy it.

Cool, might go for the vinyl this time since it's a single.
