Cambridge Audio - on the Edge

It looks impressive and the spec looks good but its a great deal of money for a Chinese made product. I know its the way of the world etc. etc. but its a shame that the manufacturing isn't happening in the UK.

Interesting. I think these may be a challenging sell in the UK. Cambridge are only available via Richer Sounds. In general, I doubt the typical Richer Sounds customer is looking to buy £4,500 amplifiers. Perhaps this will be the start of Cambridge becoming available via more specialist, audio retailers?

Thing is does richers have 4000 quid walk ins, I doubt it. Shops like MAX and KJ WEST do but not richers. Theyll need more than a couole of pages in what hifi to shift these

I agree, they'll need to open the UK retail market up much wider than RS, or maybe RS will sell them on at silly discounted prices!

...............is made to celebrate musicality. Riffs, phrases, percussive rolls – take in every detail of your music thanks to its dynamic setup. Effortlessly powerful, but with incredible depth, the overall sound is breath-taking – like you’re sat in the recording booth with the musicians.

Certainly these appear to be the dog’s bollox alright.

I walk past one of the Edge power amps each day in the Deansgate Richer Sounds window display. £4,700 is a lot of dosh, especially considering the rest of the gear on sale. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

The marketing reads awfully like an Azur 851A with chip volume control and a very nice case, not that is not a route already well trodden by several upper-middle range makes these days.

Do you think a company producing amps can sell them for £c4k on foo alone?
Whatever. The ingredients of success could best be described as complex. On any view this market contains a substantial complement of fools at all points of the chain.

Making an amp 'look the money' is a far bigger challenge than making it 'sound the money'. People buy with their eyes, it's the first barrier to any purchase.

Well, if all amplifiers sound the same, why somebody cannot to choose with their eyes if he has money. Principle works for many other things very well.
