I'd forgotten Mick lives there. Given that fact, that Swindon has many deprived areas, high levels of violence and drug crime, it's surprising Mick hasn't become aware of the problems the tories have caused. Perhaps he needs to leave the gated complex more often and look further than Waitrose car park.

Yes. The UK is not unique. The EU is bound by neoliberal economics like the UK and the picture is mixed.
 
It alway puzzles me that the left see reducing numbers of foodbanks to be a goal.

Surely the wider availability of food and numbers of convenient access points is a good and not a bad.

Who are these on “the left”? The Trussel trust?

It is not about reducing the number of foodbanks, but reducing the need for foodbanks.

The need for foodbanks in one of the richest countries in the world is the symptom of something going very, very wrong

Surprised to read that as I haven't been in Guildford for about 20 years. Used to be one of the more affluent towns.

The world Covid pandemic
The world recession and rampant inflation.

Though China has become the worlds largest economy and it only has one food bank, so maybe we could all move there.
They also have a state run under socialism.

The UK has a low level of productivity so it needs to work harder. I worked hard, I am not boasting as I did work hard and got rewarded accordingly and everyone else can do the same.

However I am convinced that most people in the UK are doing ok.

We keep voting for the same old lies, myths and bollocks despite it failing. We still believe politicians who save they love democracy and the NHS, but make policy decisions on our behalf that are slowly crippling both.

We are doing it again now. Labour is talking about saving the NHS, but is promising to privatise it. How that still garners votes after 50 years of decline is the question of our time.

Indeed, I am so disillusioned that I won’t be voting in the locals or general elections. I know a lot of others that feel and will be doing the same. It’s a very sorry state of affairs. The biggest news could well be the high number of non voters

Perhaps we should just use visualisation techniques to “believe“ more?, I think that’s where I’ve been going wrong throughout my life. I’ve always been a realist, time to become a fantasist and ”visualise wealth” into existence.
