Who knows... If it's in VCR service manuals possibly. It still seems very unlikely to me but to be honest it ain't important enough for me to start tracing through various manuals to find out.

& the chance of actually tracking down a VCR?

It's a (more or less) general purpose brushless dc motor controller. Would have all sorts of uses, as long as you want to control a brushless DC motor.

No notinterested in VCR just happend to be in the box and couldnt turn this lot down for £3

There’s a VCS3 vernier oscillator frequency control knob in there, so you now need to build a VCS3, obvs.
