10 albums everyone should own

chrisallan-

You have some Mould in there. Like Dan M, you are a good man.

Seriously, nice to see some Sly & The Family Stone mentioned, though I would have listed "There's A Riot Goin' On".

Erik,
I saw Mould in Sugar @ Hull Adelphi once. Everone spat on him- weird. closest I got to punk; a very 'raw' gig indeed. Captain.

Riot is the other one - but I just like Sly and The Family Stone full stop. Their performance at Woodstock made all the other bands look restrained.

Husker Du made the 80s bearable - the best is the video "Live at Camden Palace" or whatever its called, they where well tuned in at that point.

1. Yes - Close To The Edge.
2. Rush - Moving Pictures.
3. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti.
4. Deep Purple - Made In Japan.
5. UFO -Strangers In The Night.
6. Crowded House - Temple of Low Men.
7. Blackmore's Night - Shadow Of The Moon.
8. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory.
9. Rammstein - Mutter.
10. Tim Finn - Before & After.
11. Cozy Powell - Tilt.

(All good amps go up to eleven, and no mention of Queen!)

Today's top-ten in no particular order is:

Trans-Europe Express - Kraftwerk
Music from Big Pink - The Band
Ju Ju Music - King Sunny Ade and his African Beats
Clandestino - Manu Chao
Solitude Standing - Suzanne Vega
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Little Axe - The Wolf that House Built
Kate Bush - Aerial
New Order - Low Life
Ry Cooder - Paradise and Lunch

Clandestino doesn't capture Manu Chao's live performances but unless anyone has a recording of Manu Chao's Sat night session at Glastonbury 2002 it's for me his best recording

making music/ zakir hussain ...../. colour of spring/ talk talk .... baja sessions/ chris isaak..... companion / patricia barber .... live at blues alley / eva cassidy ..... james blood ulmer / do you remember america ..... lights in the dark / hector zazou ...... electra / arild andersen ..... mickey hart /planet drum..... salif keita/ soro .. ....

I've still not got all ten of anyone's list yet, a couple of sevens and eights and even a nine, but no full set yet!

I'm shocked you don't have all of mine - after all, it is the definitive list ;)

I'm shit at these type of things as my list is likely to have changed by the time I click post.

10 mainstays easily available...

Arab Strap "The Week Never Starts Around Here". Perhaps not as accomplished as Philiphobia, but edges it IMO.

Aphex Twin "Drukqs". Perhaps not the MOst accessible of his albums, but the MOst rewarding..... and it's a double album :)

Badly Drawn Boy "The Hour of Bewilderbeast".

Bjork.... Can I suggest the recently released box set?

Bob Marley..... There's probably a compilation which covers all the essentials. Of the individual albums though... possibly Kaya.

DJ Shadow "Endtroducing" Better still, the Deluxe edition!

Dr Octagon "Dr Octagonecologyst"

Joanna Newsom "The Milk-Eyed Mender".

Lamb "Lamb" Their first and still their best.

Merz "Merz". EVERYONE should own this.

Nirvana "Unplugged in New York"

Radiohead "OK Computer"

Sigur Ros "Agaetis Byrjun"

Stone Roses "Stone Roses". Then again the best of might be better as you'll get Fools Gold too!

Tricky "Maxinquaye"

Ok, that's MOre than 10, but like the rest of you, I'm sure there's MOre!

Massive Attack, Delakota "one love", Chemical Bro's, Prodigy, mu-ziq, Squarepusher, Plastikman, Lou Reed, Aretha, Marvin, stevie.........

bleh.

Hello MO, haven't heard from you in a long while. Hope everything's OK.

This box set sounds interesting. Is it available on vinyl, too?

I did comparatively poorly there with just a 7 – I need New Day Rising and Land Speed Record to complete Husker Dü and I haven’t got the Shins or Mum albums (haven’t even heard them).

Hi joel, how are you? Apart from having poked MOself in the eye with a twig earlier today, all is well.

I don't own the box set, just the individual albums, but couldn't decide which album to go for. I don't think it's available on Vinyl and doubt it will be in this form.

see here http://www.bjork.com/special/surrounded/

All cds are dual layer with the original stereo mix, and 5.1 DTS versions.
5 of the 7 albums also feature videos. All presented in a lovely pink box.

Tony.

I'm guessing at least 10 of mine? Though I did list 15.
