That‘s what we are doing, and it has been brilliant. We do 90% of our driving with the runabout Leaf, mostly powered by our own PV, and only get out the 220 Merc for long runs/holidays. The Merc is probably going to last for ever like this.

Have a look at Musical Fidelity M5si or M6si. They are much more modern approaches to an integrated amp, run in Mode A the first few watts , and have both a very good Dac and Phono built in as standard. They do that soundstage thing, and also are veeery powerful with loads of details, but...

If you have the funds, take a look at Avantgarde, Uno or even Duo. They‘ll fill a place like that easily, and the horns focus the sound a bit too.

I'm busy right now, but had time for a very quick A/B. I found albums I have both in 16/44 and again in higher resolution. The first one plays alright both in 16/44 and 24/44. The other one is ok in 16/44 but too slow in 24/96. Confirming back the other tracks I had noticed were also 24/96...
