According to AVI all passive speakers are awful sounding, now I know they are going to say that but I wonder why active speakers are not more popular?

Providing its installed right & nothing set wrong then look at it another way, could it possibly be your Ortofon has more bass where the Denon is more realistic ;) I think thats what makes it so interesting because each cartridge sounds different :)

I cant quite make out from the photos on the Rega site what material the base & tonearm are made from? the base looks like it might be plastic from the photos but I wouild be interested to know what the tonearm is made from.

Good point Keith & something I had forgotten about :o. I will place some rugs around the floor area to try & dampen down any reflections & will order some of those rubber mounts somebody posted above to isolate the speaker from the hard floor.

I finished installing some wood flooring for where my speakers will be but I need some rugs to dampen the echoes. I dont know whether to use spiked feet or some type of softer stuff.
