Chris Thomas Hi Fi Reviewer - RIP

I first met Chris when I was 15 at Chris Thomas Audio Systems in Walthamstow East London. I can’t believe he’s gone.

No the block before the meter that has a tamper proof seal. Inside is a fuse.

Another mains fuse hits the streets

I’ve just been on an EMC course. Does anyone have a Document of Conformity for any of these audiophile fuses? That would show the fuse meets UK legislative requirements (not European because we have left!) is fit for purpose and safe. If there is one, where could I see a copy? There is an...

If you have a house over 60 years old and have an original cut out fuse (the sealed one before the meter) get it replaced with a new cut out. It’s free and the difference in sound was clear. Lovely “upgrade”. Look at https://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/electricity/fuse-upgrade

Nip up the speaker unit screws. Just half a turn or so.

    HiFi: old man's (end)game?

Re the younger generation, I have kids and work with young people and I’m optimistic. My son actually told me to listen to an album all the way through more than once. Others I’ve helped out with proper headphones and an amp and they have been shocked. One of my daughters friends (who sings in a...

Recommendations for an amp/speakers combo for home office?

In my office I use a Nad D3020 (nice and small) with a really old pair of Roksan full range speakers. Great for near field. If I was to get new speakers I’d look at something like these… https://www.soundimports.eu/en/markaudio-tozzi-one-kit-white.html The NAD (used) and the speakers would be...

    Need fast speakers

I’m biased but I would agree. And with David Berning amps, the timing and lack of inertia can be startling. Dare I say it but it can be a bit too much for some people. How’s that for balance!

Shaving CDs... Techmoan Video On The Audio Desk Systeme Glass

Just got to say had that disc lathe in the days I had a Naim CDS. Don’t ask me why, but it did work. I also still have the Bedini disk spinner thing and without a shadow of a doubt that works. For serious listening, I would not be without it. Again, I don’t know how it “works”

Women have ears too don’t they?

Agree. I’m a long-standing member of Audax UK. I’ve done a few Sportives and they are commercial bullshit.

Women have ears too don’t they?

I think you are all missing a basic fact. I’ve been reading “invisible women” and it’s clear that most women just don’t have the time for any hobby because 75% of all the unpaid work in the world is done by women. That includes women who work full time. That work is bringing up the kids...

Home remodeling - tips for mains and network

Russ Andrews https://www.russandrews.com/images/pdf/MainsWiringGuide030221.pdf Although I did not use Russ Andrews / Kimber products, I followed his circuit diagram. I also have a garden earth spike and followed his guide to make sure it was safe and legal. For data I used a 100m reel of...
