The Good Guys: Seller Feedback (Part V)

Equally a nice transaction and chat with @jusphish. I don't buy/sell often so for me it was also a timely reminder there are pleasant hi-fi enthusiasts about. I hope you enjoy the music. Thank you.

    Mac Mini - Again probably..

A Mac Mini is an expensive streamer. Having multiple USB drives plugged in is a complication. The USB monitor sounds a bit odd. Overall, even if it is an inelegant solution it works so good luck.

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

Thanks. Do you know what is powered on the 82 with either a Supercap or 2 x HC supplying 4 rails?

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

How do you know a single HC on an 82 is spilt front/back? Just asking this because Naim themselves say 2 x HC are split L/R i.e. not front/back as others have said here. To have 1 x HC split front/back on an 82 just seems an odd design choice to me. To have the capability to split L/R and use...

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

When you open it please can you give us the definitive answer on what 1 x HC and 2 x HC's (or 1 x SC) power on the 82?

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

So, the difference in our speculation is that you think the four rails from either 2 x HC or 1 x SC on an 82 power front and back whereas I speculate they power each channel. My speculation is based only on Naim's comments on balancing hicaps for use on each channel. In addition to the above...

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

So you have one HC powering front and one back. Perhaps that is how it works. A bit surprising as Naim themselves have said that with 2 x Hicaps one powers the left channel and one the right channel. Hence the need for them to be balanced (same model, vintage, service etc)

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

Realise that - just didn't want to type it again :) Setting aside the NAPSC point (as everyone uses it), this is the same list as for the 72 above. So your contention, which may be right, is that the 82 follows the same approach to power as the 72, only having separation of power supply to...

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

So, it seems the answer may be along the following lines subject to confirmation on both but the 82 in particular: HC on 72 Rail 1 - relay board, logo, 2 x gain boards (321) Rail 2 - phono boards, line boards, tape boards, 2 x time aligned input buffers (729) HC on 82 Rail 1 - left...

How are hicap rails used with 72 and 82?

Just following up on another thread to be clear on how a hicaps two power rails are used with a 72 or 82. When used with the 82, the two power rails of the hicap each power a channel from front-to-back for one of the following: 1) phono boards, buffer boards 2) gain boards With the 82's...

Naim NAC82 PS - Is a Supercap worthwhile?

Not silly or naive. However, I am not the OP so it is not my question. I am interested in what powers what in various HC/SC 72/82 permutations. The SC has both better power supplies than the HC and more available supplies if needed. Clearly its level of benefit in the latter area depends on...

Naim NAC82 PS - Is a Supercap worthwhile?

My understanding was that when using two hicaps each hicap powers a channel. Is that not the case? Presumably, if using only one hicap then each power supply of that one hicap powers a channel. With a 72, if I pull the buffer and phono boards all I am left with two music circuits, one for...

    Avondale Audio 821 modules

Thanks. Still feel unclear on the 'ultimate' approach to regulation. What does VBE stand for btw?

Naim NAC82 PS - Is a Supercap worthwhile?

To the OP, you might also expect better earthing with 1 x SC instead of 2 x HC.
