Is it time for speed limiters on cars?

One appealing argument for limiters is that we could then ditch speed bumps. That's a swap I'd make in a heartbeat.

Vintage DD TTs slightly off the radar...

The Dual 701 can be very good value for a decent direct drive. Especially if you can find one in the UK where they seem to be under-appreciated. They have a very cool mid-century teak plinth often with an aluminium waistband. Very G-Plan and nothing like any Japanese decks. A nice one on ebay...

    Ukraine IV

Wonder if Austria will reconsider its neutrality too. Nothing surfaced in the news so presumably not. Anyone know ?

    Thatcher Statue

The fourth plinth was very rarely statues. In fact in all the twenty years I rode past it every day it was never a statue. I was sometimes fun.

    Thatcher Statue

Probably even more Tory now than when Thatcher was MP. 65% according to Wikipedia which also tells me the town is quite Labour but is heavily outvoted by the rural parts. Probably ought to have put the statue in a field somewhere. Anyway leaving aside the hideousness of those depicted in statue...

    Man cave

I built my own a little bigger than that (5m x 4m plus loft and mezzanine) and the materials alone came to probably £10k plus. I lost count before the end. Spec of course is everything but a space that's warm, dry and comfortable all year round is not going to be cheap. Mind you such things...

    Onkyo - gone bust

Likely mostly money owed to suppliers, staff, other group companies (if there were any) that kind of thing. Debt is just the catch all term. These days banks don't like lending to business at all unless they're huge and the debt can be secured on something or guaranteed by a really huge parent...

    Onkyo - gone bust

Brand names are just another traded asset. Very few are still associated with the people or the engineering organisations who first made them worth knowing but might have some marketing value because the public imagine they are. If that value fades they're dropped in a filing cabinet to be...

A thread to catalogue the eloquence, dignity, diplomacy and wisdom of Boris Johnson III

If they called it privatisation absolutely. If they succeed in burying that reality behind fresh wibble then maybe not. One of the issues here of course is that people tire of language that's been on repeat for decades, so claims of privatisation by the back door or profit motive or whatever...

    Labour Leader: Keir Starmer VI

She had other far more effective ways of making striking harder. I don't think Thatcher was corrupt (though many of her colleagues were) I think she was first and foremost a ruthless ideologue. Besides there are often many reasons policy sets are enacted and many people involved. If reasons...

    Labour Leader: Keir Starmer VI

Agreed. There's no doubt whatsoever selling off council housing was part of a wider effort (broadening share ownership being the other part) to make the electorate more right wing. I'm sure many here will remember the huge national TV and poster campaigns (the biggest ad campaigns of their day)...

    Labour Leader: Keir Starmer VI

Yeah but conversation will never go out of fashion and who in their right mind would seek out conversation on YouTube? Patience grasshopper.

    2022 biwiring

Points of difference. Unique feature sets. Something else to wibble about on their websites. They all chase those. It's more marketing than engineering but sometimes might be both. Ultimately they believe in shifting boxes or they go bust. Seems to me it takes ages to separate gimmicks or...

Tory MP moans poor people 'can't cook properly' and boasts meals only cost 30p

Remember all those Tory MPs who stood up to explain lining paper and trade emulsion to Boris when he was complaining his £161k salary plus expenses wasn't enough to even to get by on let alone buy £500 rolls of horrible wallpaper? No, not me either.
