Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

    Strictly speaking, LRM is the SRM12B, whereas the SRM10B is...the SRM10B... :D

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

LRM was strictly pro audio whereas LGM is more blingbling domestic :D If your mate ever wants to part with the 10B's let me know.

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

Oooh...LRM/LGM's, one of my favourite Tannoys from that era, my favourite being the 10" variety, which are as rare as rocking horse shit. Btw, iirc that should be a circular badge on the front. The lightning flash badges are for MG backwards cabinets, though it still looks good.

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

John, be aware that these are really heavy mf's at something like 18ks each inc drivers, so if they are going on the wall make sure the brackets are up to it otherwise you may end up with a crater in the floor :D Btw, they will sound best on floor stands with a bit of space behind and to the...

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

All DC Tannoys that have the same horn and xover sound similar. They either do more or less bass depending on driver and/or box size. It is why Tannoys have been so popular in the recording/broadcast industry. You could move from one studio to another and carry on working on the same piece of...

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

I had a pair of these until recently. I lent them to one of my friends for a demo and he liked them so much he would not give them back, and in the end I had to sell them to him. :D They do sound very good as they have an ultra solid braced mdf cabinet with a 30mm front baffle, and more...

    Measuring resistors...

This type of component tester has the additional advantage of a calibration function, which is something absent from most dmm's.

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

All Tannoys up to and including the 38xx DC drivers(SRM and similar) use the same horn and compression driver, together with essentially the same hf section in the passive xover. It is what defines the Tannoy sound in all these speakers. Other than that you get either more or less bass depending...

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

Applies to all 2528 DC driver based Tannoy's, ie. Ascot, Chester, Dorset and Mayfair. This was Tannoy's first foray into plastic cones. By comparison the DC1000's illustrate very clearly how much the design of similar plastic cone based Tannoy's has evolved over the intervening years. I would...

Tannoy Chesters- what do I need to know?

The plastic cones honk and do not sound crisp like the paper cones on larger Tannoys(ie. flabby bass). I had a pair of Chesters for six months... Problem can be solved by reconing as SRM 10B, but an expensive solution. (former Tannoy service manager)
