Have cd players improved a lot from the beginning of time?

Thinking up to £300.00. Need to sell some stuff though to raise funds. Mike

Have cd players improved a lot from the beginning of time?

I bought a brand new Cambridge Audio AXC35 a few years ago, but I barely use it. It has never drawn me into the music I play on it and just find it too clinical to listen to. It looks dull as well! I've been looking for something retro with a more 'earthy' sound. A few more lights and a jazzy...

Pink Floyd - Pulse (Anyone’s LED still flashing?)

That looks a bit different to mine. I've changed the battery a few times over the years and I think initially I had to slide a kitchen knife down the inside to unstick the cardboard housing for the circuit board. Still flashing though! Mike

    1st gen cd players

I'll have to keep my eyes open for one. Seems to be more CD67s about, but I'm guessing not as good a player? Would you be able to carry out repairs/servicing on a Quad 66 if necessary? Cheers Mike

    1st gen cd players

As I already have a Quad 44/405-2 amp set-up I quite like the idea of getting a Quad 66 or Quad 67 to keep it in the family. Are these CD players any good? I've currently got a Cambridge Audio AXC35 and whilst it works fine I don't find it draws me into the music at all. Thanks Mike

Quad 44 won't switch on. Any ideas?

I'm still experimenting, but will update here in due course. Cheers Mike

Quad 44 won't switch on. Any ideas?

Thank you for offering. I have however decided to stick with the Quad gear (for the time being!). All the best Mike

Quad 44 won't switch on. Any ideas?

I finally got the 44 working! Managed to access the on/off switch and sprayed some switch cleaner inside. However I was mindful that this is probably not a permanent fix. So, I sourced a much later grey coloured version of the 44. Huge improvement in the sound. Much clearer than my old 44 and...

Quad 44 won't switch on. Any ideas?

I did try a PrimaLuna about a year ago. I found it a bit sterile and uninvolving. It went back to the dealer. However I subsequently heard from a fellow pink fisher that the stock Prima Luna valves are not that great. Whether that's true , I don't know. I was also recommended a Unison Research...

Quad 44 won't switch on. Any ideas?

I opened the 44 up only to find the switch is encapsulated in some sort of plastic unit. So not able to see anything. In the meantime I've plugged my old NuForce Icon amp in and I'm starting to realise how much detail the Quad stuff misses out on. The Icon is not perfect (lacks a bit of...

Quad 44 won't switch on. Any ideas?

As per the title - my Quad 44 will no longer turn on after pushing the on/off switch. It did this occasionally in the past, but would work after a couple more button prods. This time however, nothing. Any ideas? I've checked fuses which are all OK. Mike

    RIP Nik Turner

Me and some friends drove up to a free festival at Greenham Common in the early 1980s. As soon as we got there and fell out of my mate's Datsun Cherry we were approached by Nik Turner. 'Alright guys. We're putting up a stage and need some trees chopped down to help put it together'. We were a...

    Croft Integrated Crispy Smooth

Hi Don Do have a link or pics of your Croft? Is it all valve or a combination of valve and solid state? I am also using a Quad 405-2 with a Quad 44 pre and Tannoy speakers. I too was interested in the little Quad VA-1, but it sounds from what you are saying it might not be a good choice. The...
