    Recruitment emails

There might well be some scams going around, but there are also a ton of substandard recruiters out there. People who genuine can't (or can't be bothered to) read a LinkedIn profile properly and match it to a job description, people who doesn't seem to understand what I might look for in a new...

Post-Trump: III (decline, further tantrums, legal proceedings, book deals etc)

Pretty sure someone in the newsroom had a bet about whether this would escape the censors or not

Has anyone bought a product because of a recommendation on ASR?

Fair enough, but firstly there's a difference between electronics and transducers here (IMHO), and secondly I would say a lot has happend since the 1950s/60s/70s when "hifi" really started to take off. With today's technologies I'd approach it as there is a point where the measurements are "good...

Has anyone bought a product because of a recommendation on ASR?

Bruno Putzey's Balanced Pre (I guess). A DIY-design by the designer behind the Hypex UCD/NCore amps and one of the co-founders of Purifi and MolaMola :) This. ASR reviews seem to be focused on producing a number which can then be ranked, without proper consideration on whether that number is in...

    EBay Watches Authenticity Guarantee?

But do they really check with the manufacturer or are they just looking up in a DB of serial numbers? If it's the latter, then you could make hundreds of fakes with the same - valid - serial number and they would all pass the lookup test?

Amb alpha20 preamp - anyone built one?

"Modern" opamps (OPA16xx and others) are really very good when properly implemented, but fully understand why you would prefer a discrete circuit :)

Amb alpha20 preamp - anyone built one?

It's "just" a diamond buffer with a few additions, but it is a good circuit, the J-FET input doesn't hurt the SQ one bit and you can bias it deep into class A for headphone use if you want. I made my own PCB version (but also have a pile of the original boards) - see...

No ideas if they are still available (after 20 years or so) but these guys may be able to help? https://www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/headphone-spares/

Post-Trump: III (decline, further tantrums, legal proceedings, book deals etc)

He's going to ask his loyal supporters to pony up the money - like he usually does.

    Copenhagen

Probably May/June-ish (at least in Copenhagen where I am based). Weather can be a bit hit and miss obviously, but the days are getting longer at that time so if the weather plays along it's very nice. School holidays are from late June so from then on there's typically a lot of tourists after...

    Speakers: MUN17-3W

Absolutely agree, and part of my justification (mainly towards myself...) for sinking thousands into buying tools I in all honesty do not use that frequently and might never make the most of. However, they are expected to last a lifetime; everything is bought lightly used or on sale so the...

    Speakers: MUN17-3W

Just be aware (and I am talking from considerable experience here ) that being good at buying Festool tools is not the same as being good at using Festool tools... Another problem is that Festool doesn't sell you more hours in a day to actually do woodworking as a hobbyist.

Fantastic! Not to mention that the "loser" label probably stings Trump more than the money

Home Essentials company - unsolicited goods

IIRC this was a common tactic in the waning days of "mail order" catalogues (at least here in DK). It mostly died due to a the move to internet shopping but also because the consumer protection authorities came out and said quite clearly that if someone sends you something unsolicited (and not...
