It already has practical applications in medicine, is used in the automotive industry day to day for rapid prototyping and of course there's that rocket engine... So not largely useless at all.

Detroit collapsed because the big motor companies the city was built around and built by stopped manufacturing there. The companies also started the rot themselves by creating the suburbs and drawing people out of the city. So it may be poor planning but not on the part of the city as one...

I never use PowerPoint (etc.). They get on my tits, and no one ever looks at the slides anyway. What's wrong with just speaking? Maybe let off a few fireworks at the end. That'd show the fukcers.

Because the guardian has some excellent journalists who have recently exposed phone hacking, and have been working to release the Snowden leaks to name but two. Or would you rather they hadn't bothered?

I get the sense that you wouldn't know good journalism if it hit you in the face.
