Over Priced Box Sets

Running counter to the brilliant Bargain Boxset Thread, here is a set that definitely doesn’t belong in that thread!

Hawkwind - 5 Album Set, this includes the first 4 albums and The Masters of the Universe compilation.

Something very similar to that hit the pre-release list last year, but IIRC it was the first four studio albums and cost about a tenner. Made more sense in that format as adding Master Of The Universe only duplicates many tracks. Why they didn't add Warrior as the fifth album beggars belief. Hawkwind's back catalogue has been a complete mess for decades so no great surprise really.

PS I'd expect Amazon's price to plummet with time, though still a heck of a lot cheaper than landing original vinyl (which thankfully I did before it became so expensive)!

I bought this 2 x white vinyl edition of In Search of Space a few months ago and it looks and sounds great. If a 1st press is too costly, this is a great alternative :)

I'm not sure why this is considered over-priced. Five CDs at £35 = £7 per CD. Is that overpriced? Do we not want the Hawks to get some money for their work?

The comment about the included compilation - yes, but at least it has three non-lp tracks on it (a live track, a single b side and a Lemmy song made before he left the band).

Generally, why do we think music should be cheap? If it was out of copyright then arguably it should be cheaper. The only argument I can think of is that CDs are a worthless medium to buy music on - it has almost no resale value once you own it. (Obviously, CDs have more resale value than stuff bought on iTunes - unless Bruce Willis wins his argument.)

And lastly why do we need enormous (and often ugly) boxsets anyway? Carefully buy the few good things you need and treasure them, is my philosophy.

These boxes are very pricey. I managed to snag a mint used Japan press On the Corner box for about $100 last month. The Plugged Nickel box I picked up years ago when it first came out at list price. I do regret not getting the Mosaic vinyl version though.

I do not understand the deal with these boxes. Very cheap versions of the other Miles boxes have appeared in recent times (much to my regret since I paid full price for all of them). My guess is that these boxes have very little demand hence Sony has not bothered to remanufacture them.

Expensive as they are, Miles' music can't really be considered 'overpriced', just more pricey than others in comparison!
