King Charles III

The Police also have a duty to ensure the right to protest...

“To the evil of monarchy we have added that of hereditary succession; and as the first is a degradation and lessening of ourselves, so the second, claimed as a matter of right, is an insult and an imposition on posterity.”

The Scots have done a great job in showing their affection and respect to Her Majesty. She clearly loved Scotland and it seems the feeling is reciprocated.
However, according to some politics prof I caught on TV last night, support for the Monarchy is lowest amongst SNP supporters at circa 20%, compared with 60% from Lab / Libdem voters and 70% from conservatives. Could make things interesting in the event of indyref2. What will Sturgeon’s position be I wonder.

Absolutely, especially given at least one protestor was actually beaten to the ground by thugs in the royalist crowd. The police were present and sided with the mob against the lad who was protesting. Their actions need assessing in court.

Reinstate the Suarts?

More than one in four (27%) Brits now support abolishing the monarchy. Support for retaining the monarchy stands at just 60%, well below the 70-75% previously reported from across the polling industry over the last ten years. 40% of those under 25 want the monarchy abolished. [May 22]

Decent support then, it’s not going anywhere. William / Kate will now be more active and boost appeal to the next generation IMHO.

Why's he going to Northern Ireland? Is he marking his territory like a dog?
In a sense, yes. It remains, after all, technically a part of the increasingly disUnited Kingdom, so he really has to show his face there, as well as in Scotland and Wales. Indeed, what are probably the Crown's most loyal subjects are there. Look at this example on the Shankill Road Loyalist stronghold:

You won't find that anywhere else in the disUK. It borders on a religious devotion.

The remainers need to push Sturgeon on the matter. If only 20% of SNP voters support the Monarchy and Sturgeon proposes to keep it, that’s a hornet’s nest for her.
The thing about the SNP, both the party and their supporters, is that they generally know how to prioritise.

How so ? If they just picked the guy up that's ok, if they helped with their fists it's not.

The arrested no one for violent assault despite actually witnessing one. Rather than that they arrested and detained a non-violent protestor. The victim of a crime.

PS In fairness the police would do exactly the same in North Korea, China or Russia.

Always judge an institution by it's most devoted followers, eh? In this case, a bunch of homophobic religious troglodytes.

Shirley if indyref2 succeeds, then the monarchy is irrelevant?

The next issue of Private Eye should be interesting. I assume he will be referred to as King Brian?
