All purpose football thread 20-21 season II

Its not often that Roma get turned over like that. I've always rated Cavani, he is such an intelligent player, United will be hard pressed to replace him

Agreed, he’s a class act & probably irreplaceable at sensible money. I think he’s likely to go at the end of the season sadly, the warmth of S America is perhaps more attractive to him than tropical Manchester. :(

Good performance by United. The comedy defence did its best to give Roma a fighting chance but the Matador made swift work of them in the end. First goal was sublime.

Haha!

TBH, they've got their name all over the trophy this year. Could spark them into a real title challenge next season.

I'm trying not to think like that just yet - one game at a time as Ole says, and we are capable of monumental idiocy at times (e.g. Spurs and Istanbul). Next season could work out for us if we keep Cavani, Pogba, etc and strengthen the back 4. We also need to establish whether Fred really is Brazilian :D.

Nice job by City, btw. Another game of two halves. You must be confident?

No real fan is ever confident of their team really, well the City fans I know aren't. We've had too many draw backs in the CL league to think otherwise. That Spurs loss still hurts. The first 45 minutes will be key. If we can keep them quiet, they''ll start getting desperate and hopefully leave gaps we can exploit. They're still massively dangerous but I was surprised at how they lost their cool in the 2nd half as they'd been brilliant in the first and we did well to hang on.

So much football still left to play.

^^^ Yeah, thought the second half was very Poch/Spursy. City 'just' have to repeat the second half back home for 90+ minutes, and glory awaits.

Good win this afternoon. We seem to play better against teams who attack us. Excellent goal by Welbeck. Another clean sheet, the defence looks really solid now with White and Webster back and Sanchez now established as our no 1 averaging a clean sheet every other game.

Bissouma was great again, I suspect we will sell him in the next window, hopefully the money will be used for a decent striker, we create plenty of chances we just need someone to put them away. Abrahams may be a good bet.

Is Veltman the bargain of the season? £900k from Ajax.

Good win for the seagulls, don’t think L’pool will do any favours for City later I suspect UTD will give them a spanking

Really poor from Leeds when the chance was there to push for top 8 or at least cement a top 10 finish. All the toil against the Mancunians and Liverlose exposed the soft underbelly of the lack of class in the squad. Still I am happy job done for this year. Remaining intact in the league and comfortably was the goal. If they have money I hope it is spent well as they will need to strengthen just to guarantee survival next year.

I guess that Leeds really missed Phillips. In other places, Leeds fans said that their two worst performances were both against us.

That Is a common theme for many of our games, the Seagulls don't get enough recognition for our efforts when we do actually win rather than end up as plucky losers. During the opening 15 minutes the commentator hardly mentioned Brighton, despite the fact that we were in control and deservedly got the opener.

Potter often changes tactics and formation during games to nullify the opposition. Yesterday we started with 343 which morphed into 532 when Leeds had more possession then back to 343 when we regained control. This is despite being without both of our first choice wing backs and playing two specialist centre backs in those positions.

Agree with all that. I have seen Brighton a few times this season and struggled to understand how they managed to snatch defeat from deserved draws and wins countless times. I can see that Manager getting one of the 'big jobs' at some point.
I would love to see a few of that team under Bielsa's control.

From the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...united-liverpool-in-doubt-live-premier-league There were reports an hour ago of invaders in at least one of the dressing rooms.

It’s worth repeating that NBC are saying there has been a breach of the Covid bubble (4.10pm). If true, it means the game has to be postponed. Technically. I’ve a feeling we haven’t heard the last of this, because the Premier League are reportedly denying that any supporters went into the dressing-rooms.

Utter scum.
God help football if lowlifes like this get any say in how a club should be run.
United must be docked points too for this or the game awarded to Liverpool.
Everyone knew it was planned and publicised last night.

Nothing is worth repeating from NBC. I repeat....nothing.
