Yep. Though I've definitely been conned out of a couple hundred quid (I guess), I've received at least that amount worth of comedy value on this epic series of threads over the years to compensate....
It's gonna happen this year. Watch this space. (Just remaining positive, I'm not a clairvoyant).
In my view, the single greatest issue with this project is that both sponsors and John are guilty of acting as if it's a trivial matter to deliver a multitude of bespoke hardware options. Even if Pro-Ject are now backing John's efforts, I suspect it's highly unlikely they'll be willing to entertain a plethora of customizations.
Regardless of the customizations offered, it seems clear that it's not possible to please all of the people, all of the time. Perhaps, instead of trying to project manage John, we should have tried harder to manage our own demands. I'm fairly sure that the fewer options we demand, the greater the chance we have of seeing a product eventuate.
Ha, ha!Stockholm syndrome
Update on project progress
you must be joking.. we still have to wait 50 years?Oooh. So this means it’s coming soon. Maybe I will get before I retire now. Not!

If you look over at the measurements on ASR you will see that measurements for coax and/or toslink are often givne as well as usb. Amir has explained that the latest AKM chips seem not to have a resampler [which I take to mean ASRC or at least not such good ASRC] which tends to give them worse measured Coax/toslink performance -seeWould any of these newer DACs above pay particular attention to their SPDIF implementation, optical or coax? I'd like to move on from my MDAC and CD transport is my major source.
I’m taking all my medication. Sadly it’s not going to make my MDAC2 get delivered I. The foreseeable future.Could you please start taking your medication again and stop the inane rambling. "The Boys" are at it again!
*shudder*
This saga will have been going on for 8 years in June! Just... astonishing!

“Before presenting the planned project schedule, it is important to stress that any timeframes given are only our best estimates and cannot be relied upon completely. We are undertaking development of the very best DAC possible and that is the primary goal which necessarily takes precedence to meeting any self-inflicted deadlines. After all what good is a DAC delivered on time, but knowingly crippled? That said, let’s look at the milestones and projected timeframes and the related instalment payment schedule.”
That’s from 2017. The project timeframes have been removed.
Stage 4 The final stage “Production unit cost” £150 ~ £200 + optional Vishay Z-foil resistors + shipping etc.
- Beginning of March ’14 – placing orders for production quantities of material. Owners of Level 2 upgraded MDAC’s only get to pay the final installment that covers the production and shipping costs of the new Mainboard
- End of March ’14 – first MDAC2 mainboards coming off the production line
During the time elapsed I’ve welcomed a granddaughter into the world whom I am currently teaching reasonably complex maths to. I’ve retired from work (I had no thought of retirement at the point all this started), I’ve lost two of my closest friends to cancer and my football club has been promoted and relegated 4 times. We’ve endured a global pandemic, one which I’m reasonably confident will be a thing of the past well before the project in question bears fruit. Who’d have thought??This saga will have been going on for 8 years in June! Just... astonishing!
