Although Massive Attack's third album was their best and the first one without Tricky.Hence the “tricky 3rd album” syndrome.
U2 after Rattle and Hum
Fleetwood Mac after Tango in the Night
Seriously? Both are examples albums by bands continuing without core members. It is a bit of a stretch to keep using the band name in such situations IMHO.
Picky Deadheads again... The Dead changed and had good years and bad years but they were always the Good Ol' Grateful Dead. The Dead after American Beauty
Wooden Shjips after the third LP.

Elvis when he joined the army.
Hey Vince, what do you think of John Meyer’s live efforts with Dead? Personally I love it. He does a mean I Know You Rider and China Cat SunFlower. I, by no means, chime with the hippy sensibility, but the musical magic they conjure is something to take note of.
TBH Nagraboy I haven't listened to a lot of it. He is OK but for me it's time they jacked it in. Meyer does his best however the spark has gone.

Ever since they tore the juke box down."
FWIW my favourites of the "not Jerry" guitarists in Dead-related bands have been Kimock, and Scofield playing with Phil because they have their own strong identities. For new-ish psychedelic electric guitar I like Chris Forsyth and Steve Gunn, and only Bill Frisell can match the range of Jerry's playing.
