BLUE NOTE 75TH ANNIVERSARY VINYL REISSUES

just out of interest what are the print runs of each of these anniversary editions, it may have been mentioned before but i cannot recall if numbers were mentioned.

I've not seen any suggestion that these are 'limited'. No idea if they'll repress titles based on demand though.

That's good, I don't like the idea of limited editions of this stuff, I regard these as records to play until they wear out. I have no desire to go down that road.

That interview with Don Was that Fremer did, stated that these were editions to get a new audience into the music. The price point was kept low (in the US anyway) specifically so that regular record stores would carry them.

It's a pity that my local outlet won't even consider carrying them because they aren't 'Jazz Specialists'.

If i wanted to make a little money out of vinyl sales I would spend a lot of money on a jazz vinyl shop selling imports of mm and BN and classic records plus and cafe bar with small stage for experimental musicians. I would lose a tonne from the venture but think of the service to humanity.

Just ordered this month's issues that just came out on the 26th

Juju, lush life and bud Powell... not sure about that Hancock as I have yet to get to takin off so held back for a bit and I may raid the heavenly sweetness back catalogue for a bit.

I feel no guilt as my insurance company has started asking me to cough up receipts for contents receipts... Worried I might be having a holiday in the Bahamas or something...

Fox - Which revision of the Bud Powell have they released? I'm assuming it's the 1955 one? Twelve tracks, three versions of 'Un Poco Loco' and only one version of 'Bouncing with Bud'? This is one I'm definitely looking to replace.

Called HMV Oxford St about these and they didn't even know what I was talking about ! Probably deserve to go out of business.

That's the one. There have been a few goes at this with none of them being stellar so I am hoping they got it right, they seem to have done so so far. It's a great LP if only for "52nd street theme"

I have bought the USA versions for price reasons.... £10-£11 for the older ones with the current batch at £12... As these (ought to be) USA editions they are slightly thinner 140g but do not seem to suffer any the less for that.

Is there any sure way of knowing which ones on Amazon UK are 75th Anniversary; and then whether they are USA or EU ?

UK are 180gm and US are 140g; UK come with download and US don't. The UK ones sometimes come with a 'Back to Black' sticker.

You can actually pick up the UK/EU copies in North America. I got an EU 'See No Evil' in Canada a couple of weeks ago.

Buying direct from Amazon gets you the uk edition with download code, the autorip and the 180g

The marketplace is invariably US even if you buy from so called UK sellers they all seem to be sent from Germany or Switzerland and take 7-14 days usually 5 though.

I can spotify these any time I like at 320kbps or higher on Quobuz any time I like so i do not sweat over a download code... Its like finding a sticker in a tee shirt order, nice but unless you need it, unessential.

It's all about the small print. Don't assume everything that appears to be an Amazon order is simply that. Direct from Amazon orders are the 180 w/download. I bought Maiden Voyage on Amazon via Prime with Decca (UMO) - it wasn't from the market place but it was a fulfilled by Amazon with next day delivery.

The link I used was: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IE6SR1G/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21

The small print is in this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&ref=dp_fulfillment&nodeId=200106510

This was "fulfilled by Mega Media FBA" direct from Amazon and was the non UK version - 140g, no download and, tbh could have been bought for £5 less from the marketplace.

You need to check they are dispatched and sold by Amazon to get the UK version. This is sometimes the only noticeable difference in the spec.

The version of Maiden Voyage I got was nice and flat and the sound is way better than my RVG remaster CD but it has a few clicks and pops which I haven't had with the UK pressings. Not enough of a problem to return but not exactly what I thought I'd bought.

There was a small pop and a crackle on one of the heavenly sweetness releases and I looked up sternly from what I was reading over my glasses at the turntable and then at ms fox who just smiled and sighed "good to have records back"

I like her perspective more than mine...

It's another 'Oh Lucky Man' moment.

The Amazon Prime listings come up as 'Sold by MEGA Media FBA and Fulfilled by Amazon'. Then under 'Product Description' it says 'I will ship but EMS or SAL items in stock in Japan', and this will take 7-14 days.

This is rather ambiguous. Has anyone ordered these? Did you get EU pressings and did they arrive quickly?

That's the one I referred to above - got it next day but it was the US pressing. Up to that point I didn't realise Amazon sold non Amazon supplied stuff by Prime.

As it was Prime, next day delivery and Decca UMO I assumed it was a UK pressing.

Reminds me of when I tried to buy Faustino 1 rioja from Sainsbury as they seemed to have the best price. But nobody at Sainsbury Online could tell me what year they were selling ! No point going to the effort of having the best price if nobody can be sure what you are selling.

The most recent posts here suggest that my new order of the Larry Young from Amazon (Sold by MEGA Media FBA and Fulfilled by Amazon) will be the same American version I sent back to Juno! The product description says Decca UMO and I thought that indicated the EU version. I have also ordered the Ornette Coleman from Amazon directly. If the Larry Young is indeed the US version then I will have paid over the odds compared to buying from the marketplace. It doesn't seem as if Amazon themselves are selling it, so perhaps they are selecting from the releases. Alternatively perhaps not everything is being pressed in the EU, although I think someone has an EU copy of the Larry Young. There are certainly two different identification numbers on Amazon UK. I also had a look on Amazon France and the version there has the same id as the Decca UMO version in the UK but gives the label as Blue Note. Confused? I am!

My copies are due on Monday and I'll report back.

I can see this dual release thing being a pain in the ass for blue note and them just going to one. Their emphasis is on affordability so it may be that the licencees for the audiophile grade release music matters, analogue productions and classic records and so on get the 180g love and Scorpio get their market undercut because £7 for a RiNO (not rhino) or Scorpio or DOL or Wax Time vs yer actual Blue Note providing the standard of pressing is good and they keep reissuing often overlooked back catalogue items, I can see the status quo settling down nicely.

i am wondering if Impulse/Prestige and Riverside and Verve will follow suit happy days if so.
